Why? Any of the Bosh pumps that will fit the connections should work. My CIS car had an S4 pump on it when I got it. Worked fine for years.

Yup hit you local bone yard anything with CIS should have a pump that will work with your car. I usually use the rabbit ones cause they multiply in my garage (wink)

Another fuel pump? Geez, I think I put two used ones on that car. Wonder why they keep going out?

Anytime you take a DC motor, which by it's very nature and design has a limited life, from an older car, is asking for another failure.
These pumps are only a couple hundred bucks, and you pretty much have 20 years of faithful service in front of you. Why bother wasting time on used parts for a car you really don't want breaking down in the middle of nowhere?

You might want to clean all the grunge out the old tank before you install the new pump....

Just sayin....

Now I'm not saying I don't keep a used spare in the spare tire area..

Autohaus in Arizona has the best price that I could find for a CIS Pump. Used is not worth the headache it can cause.

I believe this is what you are looking for:

Doesn't the CIS Pump have to operate at a higher pressure? Didn't think you should swap later year pumps in.

Walbro makes a higher output 255L pump that works great with CIS @ 5bar for about $100.

Yup, CIS is higher pressure and for it to operate correctly you need a pump specific for CIS or a HO Pump that Ricer points out. The link I posted is for a specific Bosch CIS Pump with the correct fittings.

Pumps dont create pressure, they just deliver volume. If an S4 pump can deliver the spec volume (which mine did), the pressure should follow, other things being equal. As I said the S4 pump on my CIS car delivered the required 1360cc/30 secs and 75psi system pressure for several years in my car, at temps up to 120F, and is now on another car still working. The one part that should change between CIS and L or LH is the filter - recently found out that the CIS filter is a different number, due to the higher pressure.

Pumps are rated for volume at a given pressure, so an S4 pump rated at 35psi may not flow the same at 75psi.

'May not' is the critical escape clause - my experience says it did flow enough to produce 75psi, and the rated delivery volume. End of this thread for me.

Pumps generally flow on a curve, where higher flow is available at lower discharge pressures. Most casual pump tests, by their nature, are at less than design pressure when flow is measured. ie, pressure falls off as you flow for the 'test'. If you can fit a fuel pressure gauge that can be seen while 'testing', the real-world test is maintaining pressure at extended full-throttle top-gear high-RPM conditions without falling off. 'Extended' means long enough for the accumulator to be out of the equation.

Someplace (I actually know where this time...) I have a brand new old stock high-pressure genuine Bosch CIS pump. I'll get the numbers off it in a few days when I'm home and post them here on the chance it will do the trick.

Not understanding why you wouldn't put the exact pump specified for a CIS system. This is guaranteed to work correctly. Maybe an S4 pump will work, so it worked for you, but if it get's him stranded in the middle of Watts or Harlem, will you guarantee to get him. Why chance it? Dr. Bob has one and probably will be a better deal.
