I want to see someone drop a 90-95 ZR1 engine into a 928.

The LT-1 will produce power far greater than the original 928 motor & getting increased horsepower from a Porsche motor would cost up to 10 times more.

Engine & Driveline expenses:

* 1997 Corvette LT-1 engine cost $2350.00
* "Renegade's" basic conversion kit cost $1325.00
* Wiring harness cost $575.00
* HP aluminum Radiator cost $895.00
* Sending units cost $70.00
* HP electric fan cost $425
* Special torque converter cost $360.00
* Flywheel cost $259.00
* Installation costs $6505.00
* Total expenses for the LT-1 350 conversion was $12,764.00

Cost of lti inst. 12g's you get an extra 29hp over the stock s4 engine. Then add a blower and internals to the lt1 you are at 550 wheel for a total cost of 20g's. Now stock s4 engine, murf stage 3 ,no internals, 12 psi boost 550 wheel. Total cost 8g's. The stupidity of the conversion is mind-numbing. Go to the vette boards and post"928 engine in a c5" and it will be equally ridiculous, so........stop it already.

Okay $12k for an 300hp LT1.....the widow made 304whp with just exhaust mods......sharky made 286whp and probably over 300 with the X pipe..... Hmm for $11,500 you can buy a Twin Turbo kit that makes 578whp.....

Actually, at the Corvette forum, we will ridicule people for far less than that, just like here.

Take out labor and you're at $6K. LS1 engines are often much less than $2350. USed LS-1 are $1500 or less all the time. E-fan kit can be had for under $100. Seller really inflated things to make the car look more valuable on ebay.

Comparing the $6-8K for a SC to this build is silly, your forgetting to add in the new S4 block...the reason they had to switch in the first place. A running S4 engine plus SC would be well over $10K. Plus with the LS-1/ LT-1 you can still add a NOVI SC and have 6-700HP at the rear wheels for about $4K more. For a real gear head, there are just more toys and ways to make power with an LS-1. You also can now take you 928 to your corner mechanic to get the engine fixed. Not my cup of tea, but I respect the concept.

The win with the LT-1 / LS-1 is the second time you replace it. Next time you're only out $1500-2000. of course a nice 928 rebuild will last 200K miles...

I always said if my 928 motor goes I'd just put a ls1 in but now I love the 928 so much not sure I would do the swap now. I guess in place of the 4.5 liter it would be ok but not in place of an S4 motor.

Ricer you are missing the concept. It is a stupid idea for people who like to do stupid things. If I personally wanted a corvette I would go buy a new or close to new zo6. But then my ego being what it is would feel neglected as I really enjoy everyone drooling over my 928 and not yawning as they see the checkered flags on my hood approaching.
Perhaps when I am a little greyer and develop a penchant for cheap blonds and gaudy gold chains, I may consider it, But for now my rare supercar with 552 hoof-pounding thoroughbred horses will do perfectly. You can stuff a briggs and stratton between the flanks of your German engineered exotic if you want, then you could take it to the home depot for parts and repair if you desire.
Regards,
Kevin

Someone in the PCA UCR region had a 944 Turbo, blown engine, and put a Vette engine in it.

Since for him it was a full conversion, the vette was more cost effective.

Not sure which vette engine, club talked about it, but I've never seen the car.

P.S. I think it would pretty cool "hearing" a V8 (any V8) out of a 944 turbo!

P.P.S. I wouldn't do it, that's why I drive a 928

Yeah, but does the LS1 run on Amsoil? I think not.
