Marc,
Yes I would, it would look bad *** on my car! It looks sooo much better than the Jacquemond hatch!

Thanks, everyone. The contours were designed to flow with the body and look factory as possible. In comparison to the Jacquemond hatch, it's much better.

This rear hatch reminds me of the one that Norbert (belgiumbarry) did on his car, except, dare I say it, I thought his looked nicer.

Cheers Roy

Does anybody know why Porsche made the hatch out steel instead of Alu? I'm thinking there was a structural reason or the weight balance (to get the 51/49), I mean, isn't it possible they went with heavier steel partly b/c they wanted more weight for balance? Has to be one or the other (or both). Either way, I think this changes some basic Porsche design reasoning. Might be OK or street use. I like the design, but some angles are pretty "deuce coup".

I think it looks great, and I would definitely be interested in one...be sure to keep us posted on the composite variants and [their] availability.

i would love to see someone come up with a contemporary solution to the rear hatch AND the rear 3/4windows. The problem with a steel hatch is that you now have these large 3/4 glass windows which now serve no purpose and look onto the inside of a steel hatch back. It makes the whole thing look added on and i think is a step in the wrong direction.

I would love to see someone come up with a competent solution to the rear, just removing the glass hatch which increases cargo capacity and putting in a shallower steel section and leaving the original rear 3/4 glass area seems like half thought out idea. I wonder why you would even do it for any reason other then to just make it different. Although in this case i cant see how it is in anyway better, only different.

First you do the impossible: Swap a late dash into an early 944. Now, this. Nice Marc! I would love to see pictures from more angles in order to judge honestly, but it looks interesting from the one or two angles you posted.

As an aside, compared with the 944 hatch, the 928 hatch is a major achievement of engineering and design.

Hey Ryan, most of the stuff you pointed out is exactly what I was worried about at first, but I believe my hatch was executed quite well for the following reason:
You mentioned the two quarter windows being useless after a hatch of this design were to be added. I was also worried about this, which is why the design of the hatch and the rear window are so small the rear quarter windows are not useless at all. In fact, when you look into the car through the windows, you must get on your knees and look upwards to actually see the hatch. The rear quarters, though may seem to make the hatch look like an afterthought, tend to add to the look of the custom hatch (i think). In other words, the ugly rear quarter windows aren't AS ugly as before.

The hatch also serves another purpose: Sunlight/heat. The rear quarter windows and huge rear hatch glass are awesome at letting too much light into the rear deck and heating up the car. This hatch will block out that unnecessary light and keep the car a bit cooler during the warmer months.

I need to take more detailed shots of the hatch from the inside and outside of the car so you can get a better idea of the design. This wasn't thrown together at all - much thought was put into it to come up with the best solution possible (in my opinion, of course)

I also think someone mentioned something about added weight, or more weight on the rear and disruption of the weight balance. I can assure you, even though this rear hatch is made of steel, the rear hatch shocks STILL work. The weight is nearly identical to the original with the glass installed.

More pictures to come once the paint and window are installed.

Is it possible to take any worse pictures? It's as if you don't really want us to see what it looks like. Come on man, we want to see what it looks like. Give us some realistic angles please.

Does anyone have copies of Marcquito's hatch concept/implementation (or know what became of it)?

Thank you, in advance!
