Default Cheap Speed

So my 928 S4 is running good now. I want to buy some performance parts, so my question is what would you recommend for upgrades first?

I can save up for a year and go straight to a supercharger which takes me to about 450 hp.

Or

I can buy some stuff from 928 motorsports like exhaust etc and have all the parts to bump my power to about 380hp or so by summer.

What would you guys do? Suspension first? Brakes?

I am just looking to add power to the car not sound. Will I see better results from a supercharger install if I have the exhaust on there?

Discuss or point me in the right direction so I can learn!

TIA!

Dean

I'd by the X-pipe from Roger at 928sRus to start with.

the easiest way to gain performance in a 928 is to make sure its running 100%...lots of little things can and do go bad that will seriously hurt performance.....hall sender, knock sender, flappy are all typical failures.....not to hard to check with a multi meter or a special computer program like sharkuner, JDS spanner or theo's tool

Once that is done.....I gained 7 whp in my stock 928 by using carls intake spacers......& I just installed an Xpipe from Roger that should be good for another 20+whp..... In theory you could gain 35+whp with spacers and X pipe....not too bad for HP gained vs $$$

Whatever changes you make, my recommendation is that you budget enough for (shark)tuning the engine on a dyno.

Breakes and suspension won't add any power. Stock running gear on a 928 should be sufficient for upto 450hp.

Without adding any forced induction or doing a stroker, the two best mods are the aforementioned x-pipe and Chips.

The only answer is some form of forced induction, Centrifugal superchargers seem to be the more popular choice among 928 owners, yes a good exhaust will be of benefit, now, and when you fit your supercharger.

I am not an expert, but I noticed a difference after replacing the fuel pumps. I think the tank one was completely out.

For about $500 you can get a nice 75 to 100hp shot of giggle gas. Use it when needed and run stock when not. And unlike a SC or Turbo..it can follow you to your next car with no added expense. Only real draw back to N20 is it's all or nothing and not too great for the twisties. Oh, and when the tank is empty, you're out of extra go juice.

Honestly I have thought about going SC or Turbo, but have come to the conclusion that, with the extra power on tap all the time, I'd eaither rack up a ton of tickets...or kill myself.

2nd on the X-pipe. Also look at headers, hiflow cats, RMB (For sound) and a cam grind.

Adding the side spacers on the 928 is a nice idea for 7-10 on the high side.

Roger also has these, which I've installed on two GTS's so far. The design is NOT a copy of "Quick Carls" but an exact replicate of Sterling's that he's had for a very long time. The advantage of Rogers set up is his are milled for using the factory gaskets on both sides of the spacer. That way you won't need to 'fabricate' a gasket for the intake side as you install them.

Ignore the ugly cam covers, the GT grind cams are coming in a month so the total refresh will be done there. As you can see, the Shark Vent from www.928gt.com is installed. A very good product, and well thought out on installation and ease of use.

I ran NOS on my old 82. What a kick in the pants. But I got tired of filling up the bottle and bit the bullet and spent $30k on a GT and a supercharger. Best money I've spent in a long time!
