Default Pod lights

Hello,

On my Euro 1983s I have had a problem with the pod illumination lights, I must stress that all other in the pod work, eg when you turn on the ignition they all come on. However my lights do not come on when the headlights are on, my clock light comes on though and so do the lights on the heater control and on the gear selector numbers. Ive terted the power to the potentiameter and no issues, Ive bypassed it nad still no light. Ive now taken off the pod ready to test, does anybody know what I need to do for my model as I think they vary from year to year.

Many thanks

Peter

Did you check all the bulbs? Not much chance of them all going out at the same time, but it's possible.

You might want to check for hairline cracks in the printed circuit board on the rear of the pod, even if not.., it,s a good time to check it .

I had an issue with mine about 10 years back and it showed up as stress fractures in the copper conductor causing a few headaches.

Peter, it's generally better to continue to post in your earlier thread where some troubleshooting has already been done, rather than start a new one. As Ken says, check the traces for cracks. The wiring diagrams clearly show which pins on which connectors provide power, also you can visually trace them out by looking at the circuit board. You can pick out which connection is ground by seeing which circuit goes to other, unrelated bulbs in the cluster.

Hi I tested the circuit board for continuity and its fine so I dont think it is because of cracks

You should have come clean about the recent LED install - could have saved some time on diagnosis...

Possibly you will need to reverse the install direction on the LED's. They are naturally polarized - however you can build them so they will work from either polarity (its more expensive so not all are like this...)... You should be able to try one off the car with a 9V battery to see if this is the case...

I told everyone that I had put LEDS in previously, many times in fact have a look at the previous post. Id tested them on both sides too as discussed on here, Ive jsut chucked them out now at they do not work which ever way I put them in, Ive tested everyone out of the car too, binned the lot. Im just going to leave the normal one in, at least they work.

As Sharkskin noted - don't start a new thread to follow up on the same topic - it just loses too much existing context.

I read hundreds of posts every week from hundreds of people and respond to many = you just can't expect people to read any of your other associated posts - especially if they dont know they are associated...

I'm not being awkward about it - just suggesting how to maximize/optimize responses.

Seems very weird they were all kaput?

The accepted method is to just post back to your own thread - just say "bump" or add another question - more data or ideally a photo - that always seems to encourage some response...
