Default 928 Oldtimers

Marc White started an email thread recently that included a bunch of the old guard - guys who have been chatting 928s well before the advent of the Rennlist forums.

Figured this would be a way to get reaquainted.

Hopefully most of 'em haven't experienced brain atrophy to the point that they can't figure out how to post on a forum.

To bring them up-to-date, after selling my '79 convertible to Tarek about 5 years ago I bought the '94 GTS that I still own and drive daily.

First forum I joined was the POC

OK OK I *can* post to the Forum but sheesh there is just a steeennking ton if info and posts here! I mean wow, I have oil to change and shat to do on four 928s and five other vehicles dammit... How can I live life and deal with this Forum stuff? I need that Brazilian assistant, the 18 year old snowboarding champion hardbody supermodel babe that part times for Hawaiian Tropic... Yeah, that's the ticket.

"Fine Fifi, now that you have all the oils changed, how about that Forum post followed by the full body massage?"

Hi Gang, still spanking 99% of the traffic on the roads out there with the 928 supercars?

I'm sad to have to report that my stalwart '83S project finally went to our favourite wreckers, 928 International, after 9 years and a zillion miles. The scrambled cams were just not worth doing on such a scruffy example.

Originally purchased from Chris Smith at Devek Days in 1999, the beast took me all over heck and back. To many, many Devek Days, YEAH! To Wichita and back TWICE, YEAH! To Denver (OCIC) and back, YEAH! To Portland (SITH) and back, YEAH!

I have kept my shop manuals for that day when another one makes it into the garage. Yesterday, I saw two 928s on the road. I can take a hint...

Marc,
Good to read from you again. I've seen you post here on rare occasions...

Now, get the hardbody supermodel masseuse on the table and make sure to take lots of pics. There's a DIY section here that would find much benefit in the how-to.

There used to be some good stuff out there from the email lists, but I haven't been able to access it for some time.

Do any of you old fogeys from the list know if "Jim from NH" is still around? I think he had a really cool red OB with a beautifully polished spider.

I still get some email from the old Porsche 928 list. Of course it seems to have moved to another server
again...

I believe I was on the mailing list ~1995 (does that sound right? Only a guess b/c of where I was living at the time....), then Porschefans and finally RL. I still get email at an addy I don't even use any longer.... My 928 Owners club membership number is 118 and all it says under my join date is "charter." What does all that mean? Nothing except I guess I was ~35 when AL invented the internet? When did DR and Jeannie have the first Sharks at the Lake..... I was there too.

What ever happened to Brian from Evansville, IN? Still selling cars?

I was mainly a lurker on the email lists from 1997 until I bought my GTS in 2000. I shifted mainly to the web forum in early 2002 - there was a little overlap for 6 months or so on both.

I spent 3 years looking for my GTS which I purchased as a consignment sale from Brian Buxton in Evansville, (who else remembers him? - he's still selling exotics quite successfully it seems!).

I recently learned thet Walt K is still pottering around somewhere selling the odd auto part here & there.

Here's link to a page on Phil Tong's old site that will bring back some names from the past (unfortunately most of the picture links don't work):

And of course this classic from Dr. White:

Bought the '86 in September of '97, got on PorscheFans, got the Devek catalog, found DR (fifteen minutes away!), charter member of Owners Club, charter subscriber to "928 Forum" (still waiting for the last issues), etc.

I still manage to post to the Forum now and then.
