It was FLAKEY CAM COVERS!

Subject: S4 Valve Covers

David,
I made the mistake of hitting my intake & valve covers with high pressue at the car wash last week.....Do you have any suggestions for refinishing them? I was thinking about having a place here in Dallas powder coat them with a metallic silver glossy finish, but after talking to one of the guys at 928 International about it, I'm having second thoughts about doing the intake. they mentioned that the internal flap cannot be removed without breaking the rubber bushings that hold it in place, and that these bushings are not available seperatedly. You cannot heat the intake as requireed during the powdercoating process with the unit whole. any thoghts? Should I just repaint it?

Joined the Porschelist in 97 when I purchased my second 78 928. Don't forget Walt K and Dave Shaffer.

Yepper DR, that was it for Sterling... A flake off the covers or intake and POOF, he's into it for like 15 years! Yeowwww. Talk about OCD Baby. Sterling, you got it bad pal. The sorry thing is we ALL identify with you and that is just plain scary dammit. Don't worry, Teri and I will be there this summer and some of my kids maybe too with a few sharks. They are all old enough to drive and boy howdy do they! Some may remember Chase getting out of the Iris Blue 84 Euro (car has a bad attitude) after a "spirited run" last November during the Third Coast Texas pow wow, "I went FAST!" after doing like 140-150 for a stint or two... BIG SMILE.

Sheesh, I AM a coconut. Enabling your kid to do what?!?!?

Ah well, all body parts are still intact which is nice. Crap the kid has a fancy sport bike too...yikes.

LL, the Long Haired Leaping Knome Physicist Pedantic 928er! He helped a ton in the early days with the 928 Owners Club and my efforts in putting together the Owners Club International Convention. It was just an idea old Walt Konecny had one day in like 1997, "Hey you are in the middle of the country, why don't you have a 928 party?" Mo, Teri and I took it from there with Ed Ruiz, David Roberts, Mark Anderson, Phil Tong, Kim Crumb, Wally Plumley, Louie Ott and many more helping tech, judge, display and speak. Wow, some great times you Hound Doggies!

Oh yeah, even farther. I still have my very first post on Porsche Fans stashed somewhere.

It is fun to go back and see how clueless most of us where back then... we've come a LONG WAY BABY!

Some have asked for the file I have of Gene's posts. It's probably not complete and was copied and pasted into a MS Word file. You can download it here.

Add whatever you have or include these in yours, and I'll post it back, or you can post it eleswhere.

I think it took me one time to learn my lesson not to tangle with Gene!

Now we just have to get Worf to post the Gene pics somewhere...now that would make a great calendar. Gene pics and Gene-isms.

Just read a quick snippet of his posts and a few lines had me in stitches. Would have been great to have had a chance to meet him.
