Default Powder Coating Supercharger Housing???

How much hassle would it be to powdercoat the Vortech supercharger housing? How complex is it to disassemble? I am assuming it would have to be pretty well masked and plugged to prevent any over-run in vital areas and then well examined after?

Thoughts?

It already has chrome on it, right? If you really want to do it you will need to sand blast the old finish off. All to opening needs to be plug up tight. You don't want any of the media in the SC.

They are polished, not chrome.

Whenever you powdercoat you usually media blast, I would be very hesitant to media blast that housing, you will likely leave something left in there and when you rebuild it wont be very fun with those spinning upwards of 15,000 rpm

I painted a V-1 once. I don't know if it was going to hold up, since I sold it. But they look good in blue metalic.

If it helps - Powdercoating does require bead blasting first, however, the process should be:
disassemble
reassemble the cases only
plug all holes or seal cavities
media blast
air and MEK to clean
air to dry
plug all holes or seal cavities with temp plugs/tape
pre-heat, powder, bake, cool

Aside from however long disassembly/reassembly takes, the process is fairly lengthy, so expect a few days at least, to cycle between stages. Plug/tape time is tedious so you want the guy to not rush.

Have never done a centifugal, but the above for a 671 roots housing will still apply and there should be no internal media contamination.

Good luck!!
