A lot. I wanna say 8 qts. Make sure you have a large enough container to catch it all when it comes out. Many a 928 owners have had oil slicks on the garage floors after the first oil change.

I dont know what the book says and I have them all.

I drain the oil and remove the filter. Screw on the new filter after lubing the gasket and re-install the drain plug with new washer and torque to spec.

I buy the oil in 5l jugs so I put in the first and approx half the second............check the dip stick. All good, start the car and let it run for a few mins. Shut it off and let sit for a min before rechecking the dip stick. Add more oil as required.

Must take approx 9l.

8 .5 quarts and then see how the dip stick looks.

7.5 ltr., plus 0.5 ltr. when replacing filter, or as Mark said 8.5 with filter replacement.

Just changed too..8.5 plus a little in my 88. Two 5 qt jugs of Mobil 1 (15w/50) with just over a quart still left. Dipstick (edit and patience) is your guide.

Ok so I loaded it up with oil and fired the car up. Car would not hold an idle had to give it gas to keep it running. It was missing. I could feel vibration in my seat when I hit the throttle. And when I put it in reverse to back up it started backing up and then it stopped like I had no power to the wheels. would not move after that.

Im thinking it is low on auto tranny fluid because the torque tube whine was just replaced, but I dont know what would cause it not to maintain idle or the vibration. Thoughts? Car has been sitting for some time.

I got nothin', but I'd start a new thread on this one if I were you, not many people are going to wander into this one thinking you have a real problem based on the title.

Good luck.

CHECK PRESSURE ON THE FLEXPLATE!! Torque tube replaced, vibration, won't hold idle, all signs of thrust bearing failure. Search this site on the subject and there will be instructions on how to check the end play and release the pressure on the flex plate.

Hows about some history of the car....has it ever ran right for YOU ! And the trust bearing question needs to be answered did the old oil look like metal flake paint ? You need to check the front to back movement of the crankshaft to determine if the thrust bearing surface of the main bearing/ block is worn. The engine could also be running on just 1/2 of the ignition system two cylinders on each bank..idle stabilizer valve could be shot , mice may have eaten some of the wires. The fuel could be really old . you might have a big intake manifold leak etc. etc.

I had no power, rough running, 1/2 cylinders running, on my 88 and it turned out to be corrosion on the coil wire plug on the passenger side (the one that's under the jump post). It's susceptible to water intrusion from the hood. Others have posted that it's a good idea to put a strip of black tubing cut lengthwise along the fender joint so water is diverted forward. Still good idea to start another thread on another but keep this one as it may help others later.

We don't normaly delete a thread b/c you are "done" Somebody else might have the same problem and want to see the resolution. That's why the subject line can help when someone searches a problem, and keeping a thread to one or two at most related problems is helpful. AND when you solve problem , to post that or what you found didn't solve the problem.

You might want to take some time to read the new visitor thread above. Lots of helpful info in there for the new owner or member, like where to get work shop manuals in CD.
