Default Set of 1991 GT non-forged rods for sale- $750 shipped

So the Gregs' sale of a set of these rods has motivated me to post the extra set of GT rods that I have for sale, as I no longer need them. Build yerself a 5.0 liter screamer!

Here's are the measurements I get, with the caveat that my caliper-fu is weak and the rod bolt nuts are not torqued.....:

Rod length: 5.92"/150.4 mm
Overall rod length: 8.319"/211.3 mm
Big end bore: 2.166"/55mm
small end bore: 0.9445"/24 mm
Rod thickness across big end: 1.0665"/27.1 mm
Rod thickness across little end: 1.0435"/26.51 mm
Weight: 846 grams or thereabouts.

Pics:

Set of all 8- still a little oily, I didn't want any flash rust to develop:

Markings on this side say 112 and 1R on the big end, and then one number, one letter, and 'U' embossed on the neck:

Closeup:

Other side says 776 on the big end and '90' on the neck:

The price is $750, which includes shipping (whichever carrier you prefer - UPS, USPS, or Fedex ground) and insurance to anywhere in the continental U.S.. I have no idea if there's any interest in these or not, so first PM gets 'em.

Very nice......I wonder how much "stronger" these rods are in comparison to stock rods or aftermarket forged rods?

These are the Porsche equivalent of Ford's Lemans Cap Screw rod for the 427's, or Chevy's L-88 427 7/16" rod, except you could buy those rods from the dealer....these are only in GT engines! These are very trick and very strong! This is a very good price for an uber rare connecting rod that everyone who is messing with their 5.0 engine should have. Porsche quietly decided that the sindered rods were inadequate, for the GT engines....and now people are making way more power that a GT engine made, with their S-4 engines. If you have a supercharger, bolt these in, at the first available opportunity. If you are going to make more than a few laps on a race course, beg, borrow, or steal a set of these. Less than a hundred bucks each, for a rod of this quality is a great deal!

I guess I should be happy I have a GT!

BTW, those look cast, not forged. Maybe I'm wrong?

Other side says 776 on the big end and '90' on the neck:
It's almost eerie how 776 almost looks like an inverted "944" - subliminal suggestion by Porsche?

For all I know it is supposed to be 944. Wouldn't be the first time I've gotten something upside down in 928-land:

I pulled my broken S4 engine apart its a 88. I pulled the exact same rods out of it, exactly like these GT rods you posted, same numbers on it. so whats going on with my original engine with a S4 block number on it ???

Not inconceivable - the GT engine was in development for a while before it entered production in Feb '89.

Heck, it wouldn't surprise me if Porsche developed the forged rod initially for the S4 then decided to cut back on costs, then reused the design when they needed a stronger one.

so how does that work? what crank would you use. are 968 pistons the same as a S4 or GT piston except wider? I can never keep all those dimensions straight! 5.4 liter with bore, not stroke would be cool

Bugger

Both my 928s already have those rods.

And for namasgt - it's not unheard of for a vanilla S4 to have received them by accident. I dismantled an 88 Auto TBF'd engine and it had the CS/SE/GT rods in it.

So, let me get this straight. If the GT and S4 rods are the same, and you have 968 pistons that can go with the rods, is it safe to say the 968 pistons are the same as S4, but 3mm wider? If so, are the stroker 6.5 liters fit with longer rods to make up the longer stroke? If so, all you need to do is bore out a 5 liter block and use 968 pistons to get a stock displacement, 5.4 liter?
Or, with a GTS crank and 968 pistons, you would need custom rods for a 6 liter which gets a little off topic, I know, but at which point, why not just use a stroker crank which probably costs as much as a GTS crank.

Why would you need custom rods to do a 6.0 liter? The 968 is 3.0 liters and if you bored out the 928 engine the same and used the same stroke (custom crank?), you would end up with 6.0 liters right?
