Actually that's the other way around -- graphite and aluminum are not friends. It's fine for steel on steel, but for steel on aluminum use the copper. For high temp, like exhaust hardware, use the nickel anti-seize.

Thanks for the input. I picked up my engine stand, gasket sealant, and anti seize today. Anti seize is silver, so I'll pick up some copper tomorrow. Getting anxious now. Motor is scheduled to be here on Friday. Hope its in good shape... Still hunting for a hoisting bar. I'll post photos when it gets here.

Hi Mike,

As far as removing the old gasket, I found a product called "Gasket Remover", how appropriate, that is a spray and really aids in cleaning off the old gasket that is usually stuck pretty well to the sealing surface. Can be found in most autoparts places. Forget who makes it but it works really well and is cheap!

Good luck with your project,
Constantine

Dave,

You have me worried as I'm OCD when it comes to anti-seize and aluminum components. I checked the labels on the two containers of copper anti-seize I have on the shelf (from different manufacturers) and both contain graphite. Even the high-temp nickel anti-seize on the shelf contains graphite as well.

The silver anti-seize I use Optimoly TA (Porsche recommended) which I believe is moly-based and contains no graphite.

You may wish to use the factory water pump gasket rather than the common aftermarket one. It seals better.
