The chrome MHC's were the original rim's that came on my 88s4, originating from Denver CO.... The front rims delaminated to an area just outside of the lug nuts. The rears are perfect! Not my favorite wheels and was looking for replacement front chrome rims.
I am often mocked for running 4-16x7 stock color powder coated manhole cover rims on my 85.
However the same person who mocked me used my full sized matching spare that I have in the hatch after he ruined his cool 17" wheel on an east cost post winter pot hole driving to Hershey!
(you know who you are!)
They are a solid wheel, and I like having a matching full spare that can go on any side.
Maybe I'll mount it on the roof-rally style.
Actually the previous generation Audi A8 (D2) came with an 18" wheel that looked a lot like the 928 dish wheels. I also saw them once on a 1st-year TT. Anyone ever tried to see if they fit?
Well, you can cut holes out of the fronts, thats a fact... but how the heck are you going to fit real brakes in there?
Hint... It's a joke!
The evolution of wheel sizes has been fun to watch. First Mini Coopers with 10 inchers, BMW 2002's and 240 Z's with 14's, 928's with 15's, 16's, 17's & 18's Just how the heck are we going to get 21's in there???
Mine came with painted dustbin lids from the factory (p110, Brian Long). A few years ago I bought a set of 4 such rims, badly painted off ebay for A$100. And they are forged. Attachment 1344509

The only criticism I have with "manhole covers" is they don't cool the brakes as well as some other designs, and I've only noticed that problem when I was tracking the car.
