Are sewer lid wheels that bad?

I always thought the 'manhole cover' wheels made the 928 look classy. I see no problem with them since I had grown up seeing those wheels on a daily basis.

Oh, well thank you. I have no idea what they're worth, so I'm hesitant to insult anyone with a ridiculous asking price. I saw a couple sets went for $500 at one time or another on eBay and some cheaper, so I priced them @ $450. Yet, I also see a number of single wheels listed for outrageous prices. It also seems most I see for sale are the 16X7s, while I have two of the 16X8s.
Best bet is to start a new thread with pics and a price in the classifieds section here on Rlist and then link form the 944 and 928 forums.
Also go somewhere like vwvortex - a lot of the Mk2 Golf (Rabbit) guys like them too, and they can fit VW's using bolt-on hub adapters which adapts the PCD. (the 928 wheels have a big negative offset, so there's space for the adapter and still maintaining a reasonable VW offset.
$450 sounds reasonable, depending on condition - if the original anodizing is still in good shape.
DO NOT use "Wheel Cleaner" on them! It will permanently scar the anodized surface, and devalue them massively with a streaky finish.
If they're "chromed" (which was never a factory option, although some dealerships did it) they're probably worth a bit less.

Well, 928 International lists the 7" for $150, and the 8" for $300 for single wheels.
And on the other end of the scale, a set of 4 7" wheels was given away a couple weeks ago. Free for the person who picked them up.

I only like rims on the 928
1. the stock manhole
2. the stock phone dial
3. the phone dial modern project that is brewing

I have the gold anodized manhole covers (was the original owner trying to duplicate a Weissach with my car?) and they were looking pretty crummy, but I hit them with Blue Magic Metal Polish and they cleaned up real nice, and no damage to the anodizing. They look pretty nice now, but I agree, I'd like a set of more modern 18's with wider tires.

The platinum finish was an option not exclusive to the W cars..... the anodized finish gets stained by most spray on "wheel cleaners" used by car washes and detailers. Vasoline makes them look their best.
They are very good strong forged wheels just not popular at this time. Partly due to limited availability of performance tires in the correct sizes.

The sets with two 16x7 and 16x8 are likely from a 928S4 originally (although IIRC, they were also an option on the 944T).

What would be the recommended cleaner / polish product best to use?
Thank you.

Don't use aluminium polish unless the factory anodizing is already gone, or they were chromed by some schmuck in the past. The correct finish is a flat aluminium color which is even all over.
The workshop manual recommends to just clean with regular soap, then put vaseline on the face, and wipe off with a cloth.
