There are many mistakes in Austen book. Info about prototype VIN's is one of them. There are several dozen '81 MY cars in US wich have 0011-0060 US VIN and there isn't anything special in any of them. There are even several ROW 0011-0060 models in US which all are very likely normal ROW cars. Its true that starting from '83 MY forward first normal production VIN was 0061 but before that it was smaller and in '81 MY it was very likely 0011. More info in here:

That doesn't change the fact that your car has special fuel tank and probably many other features which many of us would like to know more. When it was in US and was it registered there? Carfax doesn't seem to know its VIN.

I don't think the usual "under 0061 numbers are for special cars" applies to the 1981 model year, because i know for sure WP0ZZZ92ZBS800020 and WP0ZZZ92ZBS800040 exist. These cars are regular 1981 model year 928s (non-S) and I doubt Porsche has produced so many special cars for the 1981 model year.
I used my 928codes program to decode the VIN:

*************************************************
VIN : WP0ZZZ92ZBS840011
MODEL : EURO
MODEL : 928
YEAR : 1981
ORIGIN : STUTTGART
SERIAL : 0011
*************************************************

Can you post a list of the option codes as well? I can decode and post the results if you're interested.

Alright, let's get right down to it.
Will a magnet stick to the roof?

It is interesting to see the Porsche badge on the dash.

I have that on my 1981 ROW car as well.

Always just assumed a PO put it there.

Beautiful car btw.
