Seeing as how we are going to be spacing out the caliper etc anyways.
Why not use the 996 etc aluminum hubs and make a backet (steel) to just move the caliper into the proper orientation for use with that hub?
This would save alot of cost of a custom hub. This would mean however that we would have to be abit more careful about the choice of rims, but any rim that would work on a 996 should work with this same style setup.
The adapter would not be all that difficult to make either.

I use 996 997 wheels anyway so that could work for me.
If we are looking at 996 brakes now i would think the GT3 MKII would be the way to go in regards to discs. I would love to adapt the GT3 MKII 6 pot calipers to the 928 hub as well, but never did get an idea on bolt spacing so not sure if an adapter could be made that would work.

the calipers mount completely different on those so that would be abit tougher, but yes the entire setups would be ALOT easier to use as they would be off the shelf pieces with us only needing to build a one time purchase spacer. The stock S4/GTS calipers could be used, but I think that the S4 caliper would be the better choice for this, mainly as it will give more room for the spacers, and the extra tiny bit of pads the GTS gives is really not going to make a damn bit of difference. The extra space from the S4 will also help with cooling.
I personally want the 350mm+ rotors for mine strictly for track purposes.

Was this a Brembo caliper or was it a Ferrari PN?
You dont happen to have the PN do you? If its from Brembo i may check my contact along with the rotors, but i understand its an old part and they may just be out of stock.
Does the caliper require an adapter of some sort? I dont assume it just simply bolts on.
Honestly, it sounds like i need to do a search, i know Mark A runs this setup (i think he does anyway) and some other guys do and there are threads of it on here someplace.
I dont want to reinvent the wheel here, although I know Brendan does but i also dont want to end up spending $2K on brake upgrades on a street driven GTS. Actually! FIRST I NEED A DAMN 5 SPEED GTS! Im getting ahead of myself here.
I will do a search but if youve got a caliper PN that would be great

As to my thoughts, 350mm or nothing!!!!

Brendan,
I'd certainly be interested in a set of hats....
If it can be confirmed that the GTS 'Big Black' Calipers will fit both the 332 or 355 discs and it only requires a shim to space out the caliper to the relevant location, will the hats accept both size discs? This then offers flexibility and may appeal to a wider audience This assumes the nat/disc bolt pattern is the same for both discs - can anyone confirm this?

It looked to me like it was different? In that drawing I posted. It seemed like they would be the same - but it looks like some dimensions are different, I don't know.

Ryan:
Do get the 5spd GTS. The car is a blast and looks awesome with the rear quarters.
I did my brake mod as after having the 355's on my 993TT, I really liked having the stopping power for rallies, track, whatever.
In answer to part no., etc. I have always heard the caliper referred to as the F50. The piston size, pad, pad holding are the noteable differences. The pistons are 44/40mm with the pad supported on 2 pins.
FWIW, my calipers were sourced as repair parts, no pads.

brendan,
I am saying buy the 996/996 aluminum hats and rotors, and USE the 996/997 aluminum floating hats.
The offset I know is wrong, the rotors have what a few mm less offset.
So I am saying instead of having new custom hats made, use the 996/997 hats and MOVE the calipers out to compensate.
Surely this would be easier.

How would you offset a caliper that has a radial fastening orientation?

I am pretty sure the 928 hub is taller then the later cars, so you would need to push the rotor father back from the hat, making a spacer for that really doesnt sound like a great idea honestly, and i think its closer t0 10-15mm difference or more then just a couple mm. I DONT KNOW FOR SURE THOUGH, i dont have them both in front of me to compare.
FWIW 996TT rotors DO NOT have 2 piece rotors. I believe the MK II GT3 does though. But i am not too familiar with that car.
I wanna know too. I dont see it.
