Long-Term Impressions: Constantine's Upgraded Torque Tube Bearing System

Apologize that you were not told the TT must come down for it's installation. Did you get this from Roger?
If your TT is getting near 100K it would probably be a good idea to address the TT WYIT with the clamp. If you are interested we can work a bit on the pricing for the new TT bearings since you bought one of our clamps.
HTH,
Constantine

Thanks.
No complaint whatsoever. The key is stabilization of the endplay. The device and its installation are well documented here. Your instructions are great. I have the manuals. Would have bought it anyway.
Am pulling an 84 tranny and TT out this weekend to fix parking pawl and TC leaks ( I think its a circlip unit, but need to check to be sure). Will be ready for 86 in a couple weeks and well-practiced.
Will probably use std bearings on 84, might consider Constantine kits for the 86.

Sounds great! Good luck with the 84, it will be a good warmup for the 86.
Kind regards,
Constantine

103,978 - 4,801 Miles: Checked yesterday, no movement whatsoever of the front or rear carriers, noise seems the same from underneath with a stethoscope, inaudible without a stethoscope.
BTW transmission is shifting much smoother, about perfect I'd say. Maybe 1 in 10 stoplights, it balks a little going into first -- nature of the beast.
Changed engine and trans oil, the car runs so smooth it'[s almost like an electric motor going through the gears(with a lot less torque).
And... to all of those who rushed in here after seeing the email notification... gotcha.

Yes, I am 100% satisfied. I feel like this is one area that I can just about forget about, though I will continue to perform regular checks "in the interest of science".

Did you say "Torque"? Actually, most electric motors used in cars have a similar torque curve (ie flat and then they fall off), so I bet it does feel like an electric motor because there is not much difference after you are rollling
Hey, if you have a problem, 1 in 10, could that intermediate plate adjustement be a possible problem?
Glad you had some great luck with the new designed TT bearings. sounds like its a good upgrade.

I think there is more to it than luck, Constantine has engineered these to a very high standard and I was very careful in every aspect of the project, in some ways exceeding WSM specs significantly. 5K miles is still inconclusive but I agreed to check regularly and as data points accumulate over time the data will become more meaningful.

Well, at "0" rpm, your engine isnt running, but if you dump the clutch at 4000, you have everybit as much. Always on torque alert!
I know about those OB transmissions. they never want to go into gear. I used the other synchos to slow things down to get them into 1st and reverse. I agree, not even a good adjustement of the IT plate, can do anything about that!
I didnt mean to imply that Constantine's design was luck, its good luck that we all benefit from his design!

My torque at zero RPM is a bit less than an electric motor, which was the point of my joke. Anyway I was referring to smoothness, I didn't realize that you were on "torque alert".
Nope, nature of the beast. It's a '78 transmission. On several occasions when I have encountered this it slips right into reverse, no grind. In fact, this problem would probably go away if I had a tiny bit of drag(but then I would have other problems). Also if I let the car roll an inch or so when it's acting balky, it slips right in.

Hi Sterling,
At this stage we no longer need testers for our 928 line of Super Bearings. We are extremely confident that they will work very well in any HP/TQ 928 application. We also give the same two year warranty on them as does Porsche, and I believe 928 Intl., on their TTs.
As far as the new drive shafts, they were put on hold for now. No one seemed interested and we are putting our focu$ on bringing out the 924/944/968 line of Super Bearings as well as TT rebuild tools for these families of Porsche's.
Kind regards,

I haven't had to get under the car since that last post, it has been mechanically perfect except for an issue with an aftermarket radiator and a small oil leak that persists. Last fillup was ~115.8K and the driveline is still smooth as silk. At over 10K miles since the last check it's probably time to put the gauges and stethoscope to it again, but I seriously doubt there has been any change.
