Default 928 S4 Estate Wagon

An interesting series of photos of the new Porsche Museum...

http://shows.autospies.com/gallery/P...eum-103/page1/

One of the photos shows what appears to be an '88 or '89 four-door 928 S4 Estate Wagon.

Anybody know anything about this car?

I've got to see that museum. Has anyone been there yet? Are all the exhibits out? Or is it a rolling inventory exhibit?

Thanks for sharing, Wally,

Harvey

Wasn't there a speciality coach builder that made a few of these...including the one that was given to Ferry Porsche as a gift?

I remember seeing a nice ruby red one's pictures from a car show in Florida?

Nope, don't think so.

The ASC versions were different as well.

Look again - this one is an actual four-door.

Hi Wally:

This is the same ASC four-door that has been at the car museum in Langenburg for years. There are lots of mysteries around this car, which I hope to clear-up when I get to the new museum some time this year.

The museum owns about 200 cars, 80 of which are on display in the new building. Expect some rotation of inventory to keep things interesting.

You can see the Porsche Classic restoration facility through a window from the museum.

For the newbies: This amethyst 4-door 928 is not to be confused with Ferry Porsche's 84 928-4, which had 4 seats, but only two doors on a more slightly lengthened chassis. It was dark green metallic outside, and had a cloth and leather interior inside.

Sometimes this car is referred to as the Porsche 942 - which would likely be the internal engineering code.

Someone should call the museum, as the placard states in front of the Amethyst car, that it is Ferry's Birthday car.
Which we all know is the Green car, as pictured above with Ferry Porsche on His Birthday!!

Have any of the ASC cars come on the market? If so, what did they sell for?

I remember seeing somewhere that the "birthday car" was actually a three-door! One on the passenger side, and two on the driver's side. The rear was a "suicide door", for those older Americans. Perhaps the birthday car with a new paint job...

Except the birthday car had projector headlights, these are standard.
