quick update on Black Widow(track shark)
Just got a few pics from Evil Genius Racing, who is doing the fabrication work for me on my track shark project....the back half of the cage is done out of 1.75 x .120 DOM and they just finished removing the stock battery box-spare tire well and installing the 11.5lb CF battery I got..... heres a few pics....
I hope to get the Black Widow on the track at Thunderhill on Jan 3rd.....& hopefully it will be flying around DE's for the rest of 2009 and possibly a late season SCCA race with MK and Scott????

Could you post more detailed pics of the cage? I am getting ready to build one and I'm looking for all the input I can get beforehand.
Congrats on getting this car. I wwas trying hard to talk a local 928'er into buying it but he never pulled the trigger. I'm glad I will be able to follow its progress here. Good luck with it.

I would like to see the finished weight around 2750lbs with almost an empty tank...hopefully less......if I could get it to under 2700 with the full cage and only 1 seat that would be perfect.... I do think there is another maybe 20lbs of easy stuff to remove left in the car.... I would like to have a race weight with my 200lb self in the car of under 3000lbs
I don't have that many pics of the cage, but here is a couple more....since only the back half if done right now..

you can take the stock positive battery wire and feed it through the driver side rear seat area and then loop over to the battery in the passenger rear side.
why the X in the rear? you aint building one of those flim flam Bmw chassis! now its going to be hard to drive to the track with All 4 tires!! (ha ha)
Nice, whats the plan for the side bars?
looks great. you are almost there!
Let me know when you want to do the trade for those 335s i got.

we are still discussing side bars....most likely two angled down to allow easier entry-exit with a support in the middle between the two bars....I like something like this in "Big Bird"
I should have the front tires next week.......but I haven't checked the date on them yet?

Here is an even EASIER way... It is strong but you would have to climb out through the window in a big impact because it is likely the inner tube would be jambed by the outer tube in a big impact and you would not be able to open the door. Of course you could just rip the door skin off too if need be...it is just DUZed on in 6 spots.
There are before (when Mark Anderson built the car) and after when we finished the rebuild for me...
Enjoy.

Thats a good idea on the passenger side and the driver side if you dont want a full ladder bar on the driver side. I would angle the bottom bar up, as the running board area of the chassis is very strong and doesnt need a bar that close to it. better to have more protection around the leg area and have both bars angle'ing up to the shoulder area. I think mine is good, but i would have had the driver side bars bow out more to get more separation between me an the bars as they could fit into the door shell area.

Very trick....but what stops the door from swinging into the driver in a side impact? Or is there some type of pin-bolt you use to secure it?
Tim Dey has something kinda similar with the lower two bars pretty low and a third bar that pivots open with the door then clamps in place with a clip...the third bar is pretty high, I'd say between the window and armrest on a stock car

Wow, it's amazing what one day at the track does. This is the exreme opposite end of concours and I have to say, I do envy you.
That black widow looks like a beast, can't wait to hear your stories after track days.
