Question What Does it cost to rebuild the torque tube?

I may need to have this done. I'm awaiting a quote from a very good shop but if I could get a price range it should fall in it would be helpful. My car is a 1989 S4 auto, Thanks

The biggest factor is R and R of the tube ...most shops charge 10-12 hours labor. We sell rebuilt tubes for $495 most shops will not rebuild the tube themself. Be sure to change the convertor bearings 2 x $30 at the same time.

Jim wouldn't that be $250 since the TT is rebuilt for the holiday sale? Not sure how works since the TT is used but probably has new parts in it.

xvett I'd just order a TT from Jim so you know its rebuilt properly and just have the mechanics install it

if the car has close to or over 100K miles it would also be a great idea to have the front pump seal O ring replaced as well as the torque converter radial seal, all of this would be easy once the TT is out as well as the front TQ conv bearings

Ryan: And how did you mean this??

I don't know the parties here and how this started, but it sounded like Red was negotiating a better price. What prompted this response from you?

Back on topic -- The 928I sale does not apply to rebuilt parts... so no discount on the TT.

Maybe he hates capitalism. This xvett owner might not be aware rare sale on lots of good parts is under way that can save him a bundle, enuff to maybe replace other items he might not have.

Its like when somebody sells a speakerbox (or any item) for a 928, and wants $250 bucks. Then I say hey this is only $15 in wood from homedepot and here are the plans, save yourself some money.

Then get PM'd 'hey ******* I was selling these boxes for $250 and I don't appricate your cutting into my action so STFU'. As if us owners are some how expected to subsize the highest price possible and not educate another owner. Sometimes I see way, way too much praise of the vendors bottomline and the exact opposite for owners.

Jim ain't like that, hes one of the good guys here to help.

cause he is bitching about 928 INTL's 1/2 used parts sale and here again is posting stupid crap about how their rebuilds should be half off too.

Yes of course the sale is 1/2 off every used part, but they could be holding out on us and sayng that there are NO engines in stock and they just maybe hidden, i dont know, i dont care, 1/2 off on an engine seems really unreasonable anyway, i wouldnt sell 928 GT gear boxes for 1.2 off or engines myself. So if its not available, its not available. The sale helps a ton of people out with odd stuff they may not otherwise purchase and it clears their inventory for new stuff. So why the bitching about it?

ive never owned a corvette and never would have (until i saw the ZR1 in grey at the autoshow)

As for passing along good deals, I am the first to point out the true cost of items, i do it all the time AT THE EXPENSE OF FRIENDS OF MINE WHO SELL STUFF! But i still do it, but i am not as blatant about it anymore.

GTS mirrors, calipers, rotors, this crap is cheap from one place that no one seems to call. AND IT ALL COMES IN PORSCHE BOXES!

ISV valves from autozone, throttle position switches.... i am the first to share my prices so everyone benefits. I love this board and when i find a savings someplace i do my best to pass it on. When i also see something that i think is overpriced crap, i bitch about it too and give the other side of the coin.

I am in the process of rebuilding mine myself and I have to get the bushings that go between the bearings and the drive shaft.

The only place that I have found that sells them is Jager. Here is the link

http://jageng.com/garage9/product_in...d4b0c2fa85b10c

That price is for each one and I need 3. I do not agree with there price because its like 3 dollars of plastic.

So I bought some Derlin and am going to make my own at a machine shop where I am at.

Also when I took my TT apart the vibration dampener came apart. The 2 outer rubber parts debonded from the big weight as I was cleaning it. So needless to say I am glad I like challanges!

But if you follow the instructions floating around here it is not extremly hard to get it apart, just time consuming.
