Default Update: it's running

Was it really that dramatic? Oh yes, it was. Nice to hear Perl running again. Smoothly, I might add. RMB is nice.

List is getting shorter... ran into a hiccup today with the clutch slave and flex line, so I won't meet my end of weekend goal of having it off the jack stands. So I'm extending my goal to Christmas. I should get everything else buttoned up tomorrow if all goes well.

Thanks for your help last night Chris.

Default Great to go for a test drive, finally

Finished Perl up tonite. Runs and drives excellent! It's amazing the before and after difference. I don't know what else to say except it was worth it.

I'll give it a wash and wax tomorrow, and snap some pics for you all.

Have an alignment scheduled for Friday.

Default UPDATE: Didn't go as easy as planned, never does...

I had to pull the car from alignment service at Euroclassics (only local Porsche stealership). They were trying to d**k me around telling me they couldn't do the alignment until all eccentrics (4) were replaced. Supposedly they were stripped. Quoted me $540 parts/labor (3hr labor at $110). Didn't add up. This price didn't include the $120 alignment. Pulled the car. Euroclassics blows.

Now it's being done by Delta V. Jeff said only one eccentric was marginally stripped.

Also, due to a reverse chatter problem, I've learned my tranny mounts and clutch are shot. Delta V is going to do the work as I'm out of "shop time" in my garage.

I will post on my lessons learned from this project when it is all over. Thanks for listening.

Default Some asked for pics...

Finally got a new digital camera, so here are some pics. Weather has been COLD, so haven't had a chance to wash/detail.

Took Perl out for a romp today.... she's running great! I think I'm going to go back out again.

For anyone following... Thank you.

Alright, decided to bit the bullet on the clutch. Release arm bushing "popped out" on the highway the other day. No clutch.
Pulled off to the side of the road. Turned off the car, put it in 2nd.... hit the starter and off I went. Only had to take the exit, thru one green light (thankfully), and into a open garage bay at work.

So now, off to DeltaV to get a new clutch. I know, I know... why the expense of a clutch kit to replace a bushing? Reason, same labor for DeltaV to do the clutch and RMS too. So why not. I'm out of shop time at home for a while, so I'm not going to do it myself. So that's the story, should have Perl back next week.

No it's not. Intake was refurbed by PO to include, gaskets, valve cover seals, injector refurb or replace, knock sensor, oil breather hoses, etc.

I'm not going to take all that stuff apart just to paint the intake.

The purpose of this thread is to bring my car to a proper mechancial condtion so it will be a reliable car.

Great job, Jim. Love the color of Perl, too! Can't wait until the Michigan winter gives way to spring and I can get mine out.

I want to get Perl up to snuff so I can hook up with my ole' D-town contingent at Sharks in Hell '09. I've been telling Mark I'll be there for the last 2 years.

Default Aligment specs

Car's back. All is good in the hood.

No noticable difference in clutch feel (beside wallet being lighter). I saw the clutch and it was getting close to the rivets, no doubt borrowed time.

Alignment feels great this time. They didn't do well the first time, but got it the second time around... free of charge. Not bad for $70.

Ride height change appears to have cured the front tire rubbing. Will verify but was told it was set to 160mm, front.

Thanks Jeff at DeltaV for the good and reasonably priced work!

Stan, Thank you. I appreciate that I've become the caretaker, I just wish the PO did too.

I can't believe I've only had Perl 9 months. Longest round trip so far was 250 miles. SITM with be 750+ miles... a good test.
