Jim:

Great to see you at RPM! I had rain all the way back to C'ville on Saturday evening. PM sent on the tools. Thanks.

New comp (have rebuilt), new seals, new expansion valve, and rec/drier....and R-134a.

If you come up to Baltimore, we could drop off the wife & kid with my wife and kid (3) and they could spend the day together. It's another hour from here to the shop, though. We could also invite other locals out for a wrenching session.

I like the idea very much, but would have to work out a couples meet-n-greet first. I'm the social coordinator in our family.
Saturday eve after some wrenching? Or Sunday in DC?

Yea man, the locals always dig a good wrenching party!

Awesome. I'd like to have that in hand when we do the ac work so we can do them at the same time. Looks like an easy install... famous last words.

VERY EASY! Only b**ch is would be the grub screw not coming out.
In preparation, cut the rubber boot for the rear coupler, and spray on some Kroil.
Worst case is we drop the tranny. No biggie.

You are so right... just getting started. Your thread is the gold standard. Or maybe the pearl standard.

Default AC R&R

Made good progress on the AC system tear-down (no rear AC).

Found a couple crusty orings at the expansion valve (on the backside).
A missing oring on the fuel cooler.
Front seal of compressor was leaking as well.

So far, this job is pretty straightforward, as least from a mechanical point-of-view.

Next step is flushing the condenser and evaporator coils, and getting new kevlar hoses made.

The tricky hose is the one that runs from the dryer to the expansion valve.
Most of it is hardline, and looks to be near impossible to remove with the engine in situ.
So I'm considering removing more of the hardline, and running kevlar hose all the way back to the firewall. Then hardline to the exp. valve from there.
Will have to look into having ample heat shielding on the hose, and possible different routing, away from the exhaust manifolds.

So, that's about it for now...

I need to do this on the 87 Strosek, where are you getting the kevlar hoses made?
Nice droplinks!

Jim, that short section of hose on the long hard-line can be crimped in-situ with new barrier hose and ferrules, as long as you have a suitable crimping tool (i.e. doesn't need to be used in a vise - you need one thats hydraulic, or one that can use an impact gun to tighten).

I'll be doing same on my cars when the bits get here (they're in California at the moment waiting for a few more items to get packed into the box at my shippers).

A local 928-specialist workshop does it for their customers' cars - you just need 30cm of #6 barrier hose and a couple of #6 ferrules.

I would check the fuel cooler for the missing O ring if there was not an O ring in there then it would have been a gross leak , the missing o ring may be stuck to the inner seat of the cooler

Thanks for the kind words!

Yea, I need to get back to this project really soon. Got to have the car ready for Frenzy. Just had too many other Porsche projects taking my time.

I'll report back in a couple weeks with progress.... and get you guys some pics of the Kevlar hoses Greg Brown put together. You've just got to see these hoses!

Had Saturday just free up, so things are looking good for a solid garage day. Exactly what I need!

That and a little inspiration...

Hold me to it!

Yes Stan, thank you. I will make sure I have all old orings present and accounted for.
