Flap-O-Dectomny.......DONE, thanks to Bill
First off thanks to Bill Ball for helping me with an otherwise impossible for me task....not a bad way to spend 4.5 hours (4 if we remembered everything)
Sharky was down on power lately...& I've always had a low idle, especially when cold.....so after some checks it was determined that i had a dead flappy, 1 bad knock sensor, a bad Hall sensor-sender and a weak ISV....which all translates to a "Flap-O-Dectomny party at my house...... So I order all the parts (thanks Jim) and Bill and I get to work on it today at 0930.....
All goes very well...almost too easy other than a stubborn ISV and TPS plug, which Bill managed solve by using a unique position (see pics)....so we get it just about done...everything but the MAF...when Bill noticed a "loose" oil breather line....DAMMIT we forgot to hook up the vacuum line/oil breather on the drivers side that vents the top of the oil filler and goes to the charcoal cansister solenoid.... Figures typical working on a 928 stuff.....We really DID NOT want to pull the whole thing again....so we managed to re attach it just by moving the drivers side fuel rail-injectors and some creative use of forceps.....
We fire sharky up and cross our fingers after a little bit to build up fuel pressure sharky fires right up to a smooth idle....something it never did before.....a quick test with Bills theo-tester reveals all is well, except for the hall sender....which we will have to tackle another day as its somewhat easier on a lift....
Enough talk onto the pics....

Brian...........good time on the project; assume the fuel lines and 'other stuff' was good.
How did you change the Hall sensor; above, below.........both?

Nope...not yet....we decided that it would be nearly impossible lying on your back underneath....so we will try to get it at Bills house using his lift to makes things easier.....its still shows a fault...so it needs to be fixed!!!!

IIRC is the hall sensor 'easier' to replace when the valve cover is off?
I only ask because I'm either hauling the engine this winter where all R&Rs are made easy or I struggle with frozen concrete, no lift and more bloodied knuckles.

It can be changed with the cover on, BUT the projects overlap. In both cases, the lift hook on the passenger side needs to come off and those bolts are accessed from below with a long, long extension, socket and universal joint. I'm not looking forward to it.

Well done and great pictures.
BTDT. And this weekend my ISV took a crap, so I will be DTA (doing that again)

I hear you Bill...............I'm also looking at the bottom end and have NO desire to crawling under the car again this winter. As the 'small' projects amount the more the decision to pull the squirrel becomes easier.

impressive! had the car for a couple of weeks and already digging into one of the tougher jobs!
Heck, i think the intake was the hardest part of the engine swap out! (Besides doing the clutch twice and arguing with Brandon)

Dave is right this is Sharky...the 88 auto.....
No reason to pull the intake on the widow....everything is fine!!
Like Bill I AM NOT looking forward to the Hall sensor....figures it is bad...since thats my luck...
The voltmeter in sharky always reads a bit low...so thats normal....when we ran Theos tester it was in the high 13 volt range...
