So Sad - GTS being parted on Ebay

I had a 1" hole in the Schwartz car where the alternator was pulled off the side of the block. I had a piece fabricated and welded in place and it worked just fine. YMMV

Auuugggggggghhhhhhhhhhh! Oh the Horror!!!!!!!!!! What a shame for a car such as this to leave the Shark world like this! I think everyone of us dreamed of having such a rare GTS!

That would be worth the price of admission right there! just the crank, rods and pistons that is. are they really that bad??? (lots of talk saying the pistons and rods are not that good or have design flaws) I think you put those in an S4 and instantly you have the cheap stroker with the cost of maybe rod and main bearings. with an engine with that little miles, i would just stick those jugs right in the S4 holes and call it a day. instant 5.4 liter!! You got a set of GTS cams which you could modify to be a pretty hot set of cams too ( just grind the base circle to equal the GT cams). bolt up these fairly new heads, reuse the water pump, etc and this could be one heck of a upgrade for someone's tired S4 for $2k. toss the block.

The crank is nice, but the block isnt worth crap, the intake and heads are worth maybe $1500 (in a good economy) but i dont see much value at all in that engine honestly.
A later GTS engine maybe another story though with rods that dont bend, not sure if they ever made changes to the pistons though.

One less very nice 928 on the road! That is very sad.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think there is only 3 Cobalt Blue left on the road in North America.
- A 1991 5 speed (928 Registry).
- A 1993 GTS (imported from Japan) in B.C.
- Mine. A 1991 S4.

I cant imagine the engine being worth more then $3000 though with the block damage and early component issues

Ryan:
I have been having a tough time finding good, later 4V heads for any sort of a decent price. Folks either misrep the earlier heads or want close the $2k for them....UGH
I've also been wanting a set of GTS cams to use as possible cores for a S/C'd engine cam idea.

good luck with the engine Jim,
If you move on it i maybe interested in the pistons (if they can be modified) and the crank (Should you decide to sell any of that stuff of course)

The blind holes behind the oil scraper ring can be drilled to allow oil to drain into the center of the piston like ALL the other 928 pistons ! Why Porsche changed that is somewhat of a mystery ....some conjecture that they wanted more oil to "protect" the block from the increased rod angle and forces working on the short pistons. The end result was much higher oil consumption on many engines.

Did Porsche ever go back to the holes in replacement GTS engines or in later build years like 94 or 95? Or did ALL GTS pistons leave the factory this way?
