Anyway, it was a true thing of beauty the see the two fastest cars there blasting side-by-side down the front straight! It is really, really too bad we did not have a camera running.
I wouldn't be out there without you guys! We gotta get video from alongside the front straight next time.

I found with my 16V 5L I'd throw heavy smoke on high G force left hand turns such as turn 1 at infineon, turns 5 and 9 at Laguna only if my oil level was at the full line. We discoved by adding oil only to approx 3/4 about the fill line, or 1/4 below the full line solved the smoke issue while still running enough oil to be safe at race RPMs. MK determined the oil return line is not position properly to keep excess oil from dumping at high G's lefthanders. Hopefully a properly positioned oil dump resevoir will to solve the problem.

The situation is a bit different in the S4s, and we've got some experiments to do with the breather and with the lube systems. It's all fun so far.

Ive been racing with stock breather systems, stock pans, no scrapers, no accump, stock stock stock, on both the 16 valver and the S4 with no real issues, unless im overfilled. it also blows the same plume of smoke in the exact same spots as Dennis did at t-hill and the same spots that Scot blows smoke at those same turns.

generally, if im at 1/2 level on the dipstick, there is no smoke. watch my rear view cam videos.

what we did with Scot was take some of the oil vent lines and make more of an arch for them so if there is any condensation, it would return to the engine, rather than going down to the intake plennum. I could picture large loops to really solve the issue without the use of catch cans. just an idea for both the S4 and the early cars.

Alien, isn't it? Tough to find a track on the West Coast that's not a dried-out hellhole. But Thunderhill in winter always reminds me of that Bliss wallpaper in WinXP.

It is a pretty track this time of year.

Here is the race video from the lunch time exhibition race.

What a group. GT3s, viper, vets, lotus exige, mustang, subaru, radical, formula mazda, ferrari 360 challenge car, and a bunch more. all for a little racing fun.

by the way, this is a GREAT way to cut your racing teeth. you only need a roll bar and a racing license. Its vintage rules and very very low key. They have yet to have any contact over the last 6 years these guys have been doing this.
remember Don Hansons last race? it was done here with these guys.
A few of these guys were in their first race here. Most are time trialers and everyone was welll behaved!

Thanks for the video Mark. The GT3's probably aren't used to being played with. I was shocked to see a Legends car coming out of the S's in a cloud of smoke. Sorry I missed it.
