Sean, Ernest, points well taken. On the one hand, it pisses me off when a mechanic quotes a GTFOH price instead of being honest and saying GTFOH.

On the other hand, I guess that's one of the factors that figures into some of these "that's the last straw" fire sales.

Gotta see the good and the bad in it I guess.

I meant the part where the mechanic said you had a strong car after he test drove it....if you have a strong car, that sort of mitigates against the idea that there is tbf, dontcha think?

Too bad you can't get the car out here to Kevin....he'd help if we were closer.

What about the secret handshake? Select 2 when stopped and it will not only start in first but hold second until you select 3 (then you have to select 2 again if you want it to hold second). Weird, huh? Or don't US autos have this facility?

Manuals are much easier to understand.

Yes, US cars can do that too.

But I think you meant to say it would hold first before shifting to 3 (and then back to 2 if you want it to hold second as well).

I have many questions ,does the auto shifter light up pndr23 and arrow? the car cant be put into 2 shifter doesnt reach it, i need a laid out how too fix, some dude mike on here said hes sending me the wsm cd's i gave him my address,i hope hes not crazy? Entire car was repainted i know po was in smash up because he left the police report in the car from 14 years ago it says 10,000 in damage ,along with a entire garbage bag i filled with papers. Are your cars repainted? Wouldnt the paint look bad anyway after all these years if it wasnt repainted? Theirs like alot of paint chips and ****,do you guys have that on your car, also the rear light housings they end in different numbers is one housing from a different year, cause the passenger side has a larger gap on the top than the other side ,the drivers side fits perfect but this one you can tell its a gap.

Funny you should ask...we just sent you a pm with detailed instructions on adjusting your transmission linkage.

Sorry to hear about the smash up. 10k in damages is definitely not cool....that was a lot more money 14 years ago, too. Hopefully it got fixed right.

The light housing could have been replaced back then by a shop that couldn't find the exact right thing, or maybe your bumper is out of shape from poor alignment of body parts or bent frame. Pictures of the back end would help. Or wherever it got hit. What does the damage report say?

You'll find that many of us on here actually are crazy. Crazy about these cars. And many of us will help a fellow 928er who needs it.

So yes, I believe those cds will really arrive. As will your calendar.

You know....we have a set of very lightly used spark plugs here you can have, George. They are the NGK equivalent of Bosch's WR7DC plugs. Does anyone know if they will work for George?

We'd throw you more knick knacks like that, but you have a 32v and we only really have stuff for 16v cars. Sorry.

There are ways for a user to post pictures. Look at the bottom of the page where you post a response (you have to click "Go Advanced", below the box and not just type in the box at the bottom of the thread). There's an option for attachments. You can post a limited number of pictures through that function (I think it goes by total bits or bytes or whatever). You have to keep the picture size under 200 mb (I believe).

Or just post them to your flickr page as you have been doing and link us.

Not really. Somebody resurected Jim's thread on this and to quote it can be happening and you have no indication, AND if you can feel it, it is too late. Considering the $$ at risk, Greg should NOT be discouraged from checking this.

Note: Anybody who is scared to get under their car needs to address that; get ramps and stands that instill confidence. Then get under it and get familiar with it. Either that or shell out the money. Or sell it. If it is already a deferred maintenance pit, he needs to get out while he can, otherwise it will become a yard ornament, either b/c he doesn't enjoy its erratic behavior which will happen, or b/c it won't run at all.

I've a post about this Can't shift lever into 2nd on my 89s4. This seems to be a problem some of us have. My lever on my trans won't even move, so its not a cable adjustment. I'll look more into, when winter comes around.

In that postion, the part of the transmission cable most likely fouled with road debris must enter the cable shroud. If thats the problem, be thankful it doesn't go into 2nd, because it will likely jam there.

Ask me how I know.

Hatch,

Someone really needs to come and look at this car to make sure it is worth dumping more money in to.

Yes my car is a repaint. If i had to guess I would say about a 3-5K job.... Not show quality but nice. What condition would the paint be in today if the car was not a repaint? Who knows.. too many factors. I saw a 78 today with 38,000 miles on it that had the original paint... it was perrrrrrrfect.
