Last question for like 2 weeks promise (shifter alignment - rv)
89 S4 The automatic shifter will not go into first gear because the shifter cable is not set rite. When car is in drive the arrow on the shifter is below drive in between d and 3 when i put it in 2 the light on dash does not lite for 2 and shifter cant go down anymore its hitting all the way back,so is their a way to adjust this to get everything to line up? I never heard of such bull**** in all my life lol
yes, it appears to be on the transmission side. you have a shaft that comes out the transmission that a lever is attached to. this lever can be losened from the shaft.
at the tranny side, remove the cable from the lever by popping off the ball joint on the end of the cable.
place the shifter in the car to neutral. Then find neutral on the tranny loosen the lever from the shaft and so the lever can be moved with out moving the shaft. Pop the cable back on the lever. Tighten to shaft. thats it
What it is is 2nd doesnt respond,to engage 1st from a dead stop,2nd never lights up on dash either, like it needs just a little more to shift back more.lol unless im crazy
Sidehatch, I see a beer and pizza party in your near future.
We've told you this before....it's probably the easiest way (for you) to get some much needed assistance/advice/pointers from those in your area who've BTDT.
It's that or learn the search feature, man. It's really easy, just put in a few choice words. The more words you put in, the fewer matches you will get. The database will deliver only threads where all of those words are present.
Boolian logic. Google it for the full theory.
And learning how to search will also have the added benefit of keeping the guys off your case a bit more, too.
Hang in there, we're (Kevin and I) rooting for ya.
