Plans For The 88 (Now Engine Removal Photo Blog)
Well, I've delayed pulling the car off the road now for some time as it is just too much fun, I've kept threatening to do it, but with the cooler weather here now I have now parked the car and plan on getting started working on it next week. I am planning on approximately 6-8 months to get the jobs done, and have it out in time for late spring (yeah - I'll believe it when I see it)
My plans are as follows:
Pull and rebuild engine
Convert from auto to manual transmission
Upgrade to Stage II (maybe Stage III)
X-Pipe
Repair AC (a must down here)
Louis Ott's Niizaazz rear fender flares (overall paint is in great condition - hoping to get by with just painting rear quarter panels)
Install just purchased GT Aero wings
New Carpet
Yes, I could buy a lower mileage manual car, but where is the fun in that? Also, it is easier to "divert" funds to the needed parts more easily.
That being said, I'm going to sell the '81 Euro S to help fund the project. I plan on chasing down the no-spark issue this weekend and replacing the clutch master cylinder to get it up and running and getting it up on e-Bay next week.
Stay Tuned!

Ahhhh...the joys of a project. All I can suggest is take your time and be patient. Use 4 letter words only when you see no other way to put a square peg in a round hole. Keep your work space clean. label everything properly and in detail. Worry not over the bag of parts, screws, nuts, wahsers and bolts you end up with when you are finished. Marvel at how it well the car performs without all that stuff you had no clue as to where it went. Figure a budget and then multiply it times 3....same with your time line.
Stay focused and SEE the end...otherwise you're F'd! LOL
Good luck Ken!...and take lots of pics for you and us.

You live in The Woodlands and you are taking the car off the road for the winter??? You must be new to the area or crazy... This is THE BEST time of year to drive in Texas! Much cooler...you go w/ the windows down and the A/C off... I hate driving in the summer, just to damn hot...I LOVE fall drives! My season has arrived! Had the '92 out tonight in fact! FREAKING AWESOME!

Well, finally got started tonight - just a few little things - pulled the SC plumbing, took off the hood, removed the strut brace and the throttle linkage.
If i have time tomorrow I'll get her up to drain fluids and pull the supercharger and radiator. Its just going to be little bits at a time. Oh, and a couple of photos of my helper!

Sounds like quite a project! Good luck, and if you get frustrated, take some time away from it!!!
Like he said, too...see the finished product. It's only a few months away after all!

Well, just removed the intake manifold. I know its not necessary for the engine pull, but I figured it would give me some more clearance.
Its going to be a looong process - just grabbing 15 minutes here, 20 minutes there . .
