And the "pumpkineer" traffic everywhere we went....

It was still a pretty nice day, and it was really great to see and meet all of you!

[B]At the house....

Thanks for coming out, everybody.... I learned an awful lot about leading one of these things today. Organizing it was easy. Keeping it on track is hard!

Not sure if we'll do this again, or not. I have to think about it. I am wondering if it is not best left to the experts (Arrwin and friends).

Hey Arrwin, if you're looking....when in the Spring are you planning your first 2009 run? : We probably cannot make your run next week, now especially with Kevin needing to rebuild his car , but we don't want to miss your next run, as we did the run you did this past August. We never even heard about that one until after it was over.

Send us an engraved invitation next time, will ya??

Tony, thanks again for all your help with planning this run, and for supplying the coffee and donuts.

Allen, thank you for trying to find a fill in for the Apple Pit deli that wasn't a deli...and sorry for the alternate plans in the end anyway. Please let Kevin know when you get those parts and you guys can figure out a time for you to bring them over and get them put in.

Ed, thanks for coming, and especially for the pulley!!

Kevin was checking it out when we got home and it is very
nice work.

Now for the 9-rib......so he can blow it up all over again when he puts it back together!

Which will probably be by the end of the week, knowing him.

Leslie,

Looked like a great turnout and event. The weather couldn't of been better! Sorry I couldn't make it and sorry you won't be able to make it next week. Yikes and good luck on the head gasket issue. It's a bit too soon to think about the '09 Spring Run, but chances are good that something will happen.

Leslie,

Thanks for sponsoring this great day. It was great to meet you and Kevin. Your kids were a lot of fun to talk with as well. Although Gayle and I could not make it from the beginning, we had a good time at the end. That was one fon spirited drive on that twisting road to conclude the trip. I was pleased that my car kept up with you when I wanted it to. (You may have been taking it easy, though.) We went home by following that same road. It goes on for many miles more with great scenery and vistas. We detoured to 'Crater Lake along that road. Beautiful. We just sat there for an hour or so listening to nature and ourselves breathing. Saw a snake in the water swimming through a school of fish with it's mouth open. Wild. Anyway, thanks again for the invite and look forward to seeing you and Kevin again sometime soon. We are not far from each other- I am in Allentown, PA. There are some great areas to visit in my neck of the woods so let's make another day of some 928 driving.

All Best,

Allen

.

Sorry I missed it too, especially since I grew up down the street from your house. Would have loved to see all those porsches driving through my home town of Fair Lawn.

Guys, we definitely missed you, and I do hope you'll make it to a future event.

Allen, not only was I taking it easy...but if Kevin was driving, he probably wouldn't have bothered to let you see the way! And if your 84 US was keeping up with my 84 Euro (which trims almost a second off its factory 1/4 mile times), my car needs some more work!!

To tell you the truth, my alignment was rather out of whack....so yeah, I was taking it a bit easy.

So tell me more about the rest of the Wallpack Inn road.....I'm considering incorporating that road into a future drive....

Dear god that was fun!!!!

Where did it end up? Did you have trouble getting home from it? Tell me about Crater Lake, too! Was that suitable for a gathering?

Oh, great.... just when I thought my car MIGHT be of some average running condition, you give me a dose of reality. Sigh..........

Gayle and I had fun meeting you guys. We just wished we could have had more time to talk and get to know you and Kevin better. We'll have to get together for another fun day.

With regards to the rest of Wallpack Inn road.... It winds on for several more miles similar to what we drove on but the elevation changes become more dramatic with some panoramic views of the countryside. I am not sure now if we made a turn but we wound up connecting with Route 80.

Crater Lake was beautiful but the road leading in turns into a coarse gravel road for about 2 miles. I am not so sure some people who like to baby their cars would like to drive on this part of the road. I kept it under 10 MPH to keep dust down and eliminate the possibility of sending a small stone where it shouldn't go. I was fine. The road was well kept and flat- just surfaced with 2B modified gravel. I'd do it again though as it was truly magical there. Met a woman walking there who just two weeks earlier had finished through hiking the entire Appalachian Trail. It took her 6 months to do this.
The park closes at 10 P.M. and I am sure because of it's seclusion and how incredibly dark it wa there that from dusk until 10 that it is probably a local make out destination for youths. Alright- Now I am thinking about taking Gayle back there some night soon. Hmmmnnnnnn......................................................
