I'm begining to hate my 928. Been doing TB/WP for a month. Now, after "tapping" the air pump into the bracket, to no avail, It won't turn. What do I do to remove it from the system? The search function on rennlist is too time consuming. Can someone please help me with this MF. before I burn it to the ground. No car is worth this much BS.

It took me about a month to do mine also. I had all kinds of disasters. I even ruined my radiator, try topping that one. I added a few combinations to the "Sailor's Dictionary of Profanity" in the process. But it was worth it in the end. Just keep at it, it will get done.
You need a fellow Rennlister to come over and drank beer and help finish that bastard.
Where do you live?

I removed mine during the TB/WP/oil pan gasket/MM job. I figured If I need Cats I can get newer versions that don't need the air pump so off they came. One consideration that I ignored is there may be places where the rules are so strict that you have to have the original equipment to pass inspection so your car won't be able to be registered there.
Sorry the only interaction I had with the air pump was it's removal so I can't help you beyond that. It does come out without removing the AC compressor...but just barely.
Oh, if the search function of this site is wearing you down then you definitely need a break from wrenching on a 928 because it's even more tedious

Don't worry, it will be worth it.
If not, JADZ928 and I can be there in 100-120 minutes to alleviate you of this DEMON car.
Seriously, be patient.
Take a piece of rope and loop it over pulleys to which Sterling infers, that will give you the belt length of a replacement... I think that a short belt will work for you without interference, eyeball it to be sure.
Keep the faith. Your avatar shows a nice, clean engine bay, lots to build upon.

Just remove the air pump and plug the hoses, then get an electric fan with auto thermostat from somewhere. More horsepower, problem gone.
Don't worry too much; yeah, it's a pita, but it will be worth it when you are all done. The first couple of times are tough, but after that, it'll eventually become an 8 hour job for you!![evilgrin](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/evilgrin.gif)

Good luck!

I say trash the air pump it just adds weight. I agree with Landseer get a piece of rope or string and wrap it around the crank pulley and the fan pulley to get the size and then you can try a lawn tracker shop to get a short belt, thats what I used.

Call Roger at 928srus.com
He's got the shorty belts in stock, I've put a couple on the OB's. Easy to do.

As a fellow '84 owner I wish I was there to help. I love mine warts and all. And sometimes she's a bitch.
But you've already done the right thing by asking here. Now walk away for a bit.
Go find something else to relieve that stress so you can get your perspective right.
Maybe by the time you get back you'll have an answer or two and some volunteers.
