Default Any missing 928 owners?

A friend emailed me this article ...

Speeding Porsche slams into truck; driver killed

Union-Tribune
Sept. 4, 2008

Chula Vista: An unidentified motorist was killed in a fiery crash yesterday morning when the Porsche he was driving collided with the rear of a tractor-trailer on southbound Interstate 805.

Traffic was slowed for hours.

The crash occurred at 7:11 a.m. ner the Main Street underpass, California Highway Patrol Officer Brad Baehr said.

Witnesses told CHP investigators that the 1989 Porsche 928 had been traveling at about 120 mph in te freeway's fast lane when it suddenly crossed three lanes to the right and hit the slower moving truck, Baehr said.

The Porsche ignited soon after the collision and was gutted. Three lanes of southbound 805 were closed for three hours as crews cleared the wreckage and investigators examined the scene.

The 28-year-old truck driver was not injured. He drove to the freeway shoulder, south of the crash site, Baehr said. -M.A.

There are a few threads on R-list talking about this, here in the 928 forum and the OT section.

No ID has been made but one of our own has not checked in since this has happened.

Sad event.

It was my father, age 65. The family is extremly grateful that no on else was hurt. My Father has suffered with mental illness and two hospitals denied him admission two days prior to this. The family is going to be looking into possible negligence on the hospitals behalf.

When people are mentally ill and end up in the hospital for treatment, the hospitals need to admit these cases.

Again, the family is so grateful that he did not injure anyone else.

thank you.

Has this been verified?

A friend of mine was rear ended a few years ago going up the 5 in rush hour by a driver in a Benz doing 120+. Amazingly everyone survived, mostly because my friend was driving a pickup and the bed absorbed most of the energy. The driver of the Benz told police that he was being pursued by Satan.

Negligence against the hospital? I'd bet they determined he wasn't suicidal when he was denied admission.

Why did the family let him drive? What a sad waste.
