Thanks Mark,

I was just thinking if you on a bench place Flywheel, disc and the Int plate together but NOT the rearward disc and PP - then you should be able to check the movement of the Int plate by pressing down on it simulating an engaged clutc. On release of the Int. plate you can check that you get 1mm of gap between flywheel/disc/int. plate!?

Do you remember if the WSM on the early cars is available online?

I think if you bolt it all up, that should work, but actually, all you are trying to do is find out if the int plate and front disc are touching and you have 1mm of space on H adjusters. so , you would then just push on the INT plate until the disc and INT plate are all compressed (no need for the pressure plate) and then look at the adjuster gaps.

it seems like all this is much harder than just adjusting the 3 adjusters the proper way. takes less than a few mins , even on your back to adjust the adjusters.

all you need is a fat flat head screwdriver for closing the gap and a thin flat head screwdriver for opening the little gap up.
