Please see attached. I just today developed a leak. I first noticed it when making a extreme slow speed turn. ..smoke from the front driver side motor compartment and under the car. The bottom side of the high pressure hose wore on a bolt head off the valve cover....what do I do? Any way to patch? Can I cut out a section and replace with new hose and clamps?? Looks like part number 928-347-447-05 or 928-347-447-02...I think the difference may be left or right hand drive in the PET manual.
I WAS planning my first road trip next week to the beach.

Ron Perry and I just replaced this hose on his car, his was leaking at the same place. Before it splits and spews fluid on the header and burns your car to the ground, you ought to replace it....
replcement isn't too bad, but:
A) The alt needs to come down
B) You need the car in the air a bit so you can get at both ends- the fitting on the pump is close to the frame rail but can be gotten with a gear wrench.
C). The fitting on the rack is blocked by the sway bar but you can just drop the four bolts that hold the sway bar mounts and swing it 1-2" out of the way to get to the banjo bolt on the rack.
D). Get 4 new crush washers for the banjo bolts at both ends
E). The '91+ hose is cheaper and has some sort of restriction in the metal collar in your picture, that lightens steering effort. Downside is that it doesn't fit in the bracket below the valve cover on the fender well.
F) Where's the rubber collar on you old line's restriction? That may be why you had the rubbing problem.
G) WYAIT, consider the reservoir, res to pump line, and the 6" section of hose from the cooling loop to the res.
Dwayne's writeup on this is fantastic.

actually, its tough to get at the fittings, but it comes down without a alternator drop or header removal ![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
you can cut it and put a barbed brass fitting in the middle with two hose clamps. I raced with it like that when mine blew in a race 7 years ago.

Thanks guys....I will pull it off tonight. JUST replaced all the fuel lines days ago so when I saw smoke all I could think about was my car on fire!!
How does one release pressure in the hose??? Or IS there pressure when not running? Or does one just unbolt and it gets messy?

No pressure when the pump's not running. Unbolt at the rack first and prepare for mess #1. Then unbolt at the pump and enjoy mess #2. I have no idea whether fluid will move through the pump when stopped or not. If it doesn't then you're good to go. If it does, then all the fluid in the reservoir will drain by gravity and out through the connection for the pressure hose you've removed. Might be worth turkey basting out the reservoir first....
I hate power steering fluid, it ALWAYS makes a mess. You should have seen Ron when we finished his car- he just threw away the clothes he'd been wearing.

Does it have the "Do It Yourself" manual transmission, or the superior "Fully Equipped by Porsche" Automatic Transmission?

I mean if you wanted to lighten up the steering just a little would this be one way to do it?
