Played with an SLK350 today, new one without plates yet. Wasn't sure how new tech would perform, but Sata gave it a go...obviously closed course.
standing start to 60 was clearly the SLK, by almost a length, although Sata was closing quickly. Off the line he was gone by probably 2.5 lengths. Very quick out of the hole.
by 70 I was passed him, pulling hard in the meat of 2nd. Got out of it just into 3rd and slowed back down to about 60.
As he got up to me, I pulled it into 2nd just in case, and sure enough, he smiled and jumped on it again. Pulled about a car initially, but I caught him by the top of 2nd and pulled about 4 cars on him before getting out of it just shy of tripple digits.
As I slowed, he gave me a big thumbs up and then a shoulder shrug of "what can I do?" Nice little 30sec activity.
Impressions - love the SLK. The 350 moves very well, not an SLK55, but formidable forward motivation. Besides, he could have shut it down near 60 and claimed "I win" and since most stop-light activities are south of 60, it'd be on target for quite a few cars...especially without concern for clutch launch. It sounded great off the line and through each gear, almost like a manual when nailing the next gear, even though they are autos. Overall it reinforces for me how much different the 928 performs once at normal speeds.
specs are fairly close between the two cars:
SLK350:
268hp/258tq
3300lbs
7sp auto-tip

The SLK350 is one of my favorite Mercedes models. Sure, if money was no objective, the SLK55 would be first choice. due to its immense entertainment value - but the 350 is the best compromise. Much quicker than the slightly lethargic SLK280, for little extra gas. If I did not have a 928, the SLK 350 would be on my wish list.

AFAIK you won't be outrunning these cars for long. They now have a 5.4L V8 option in them that catapults them from 0-60 in about 4.5sec with a top speed of 165. They're monsters and will eat 928's for breakfast.
Still looks like a chick car!

There are 6spd manual 350's BTW... We have at least one in the hood here and I have a good 928 friend who also has a 6spd manual version... I like the look of the new SLK's. The old ones were WAY chick cars, the new ones look really nice I think!

Uh...not me bro. That would be any easy kill for the blackshark. Now with stage three hardware and some homebrewed tuning. G-tech 0-60? 3.7 secs
