I know that this thread is old, but I take my TPS yesterday, full of oil, got question , what to use to clean it? Also I suspect that the orings are bad, does some find the correct size?

In an amazing stroke of luck, I happened to have some spare O-rings from the cam cover bolts and they fit in there perfectly. I lubed them up, pressed them in place with a couple of popsicle sticks, and then cleaned it all up and reassembled. Now it holds 5psi of pressure! (it might hold more, but the MAF kept popping out because it was only held in place with a cargo strap wrapped around it)

I recommend that if you're doing the top-end refresh to make sure all your plastic and rubber parts are new, these O-rings go on your list of things to replace.

Thanks Everyone!
great post, i will remember this when i get around to the intake on my 85

Crap......digging through my parts warehouse I found two EuroS intakes and only one TB so I assumed I only have one and moved on.

I'm assuming when I made the above post I knew of two in my possession. Back to the garage. I really need to start installing some of this crap!!!!

Cold enough outside to do a TB rebuild in the kitchen....wifey is away

Thank's Karl, I have a feeling I know where the "missing" TB is, if not I'll fire you a PM. I "think" they are boxed up with the EuroS heads, didn't open that box.

I might need one more of the "U" pieces that goes between the MAF and the TB. I'm converting the 79 and 81 to EuroS top parts.

Thanks for the offer.

Did anyone come up with an exact replacement O-ring for the T/B I need two it seems, mine are like rocks!
This should stop the leak; the smoke machine proved it was pouring out on the Tps and Throttle guide.

Sorry to dredge up an old thread, but it didn't seem that this question got answered. I'm going through my throttle body now, and I found that 10mm ID x 2mm thickness o-rings fit well. I was surprised to find them at a West lake Hardware.

Hey everyone, I'm in the process of doing this also and plan to use the cam cover bolt o-rings as mentioned here...seem to be the best bet.

I'm petrified of all the springs ....I have never had this apart before and don't have a bunch of special tools laying around...I'm assuming all the springs decompress when everything comes apart...can someone who has done this make some comments on putting humpty back together?

Thanks!! And my air leaks are so bad it whistles and basically won't idle...so I didn't have any choices...

I have done this job and will soon be posting pics and write up appending to this thread. Although it has highlighted some new issues (there is a new TPS and short harness and I believe there is now an issue with LH), the driving experience has improved noticeably. Car coasts and is much smoother.

This is an intimidating appearing job but it actually simple nuts and bolts work and is very much worth the effort!
