Some more thoughts...

When I replaced my sensor I first tested the old sensor. Hooked up a digital multimeter and went for a drive. I tested ON/OFF and the multimeter gave a continuous beep. I tested the resistance and it showed someting like 1.5 Ohms regardless the speed. That told me the old sensor was "stuck", at least broken. So I would say the sensor is broken when there is either a continuous unchanging signal, or no signal at all.

Then I tested the new installed sensor for an ON/OFF and resistance signal. I was expecting nice regular patterns that correlate linearly with the speed of the wheel. In reality the signals were very erractic and couldn't make out a pattern at all. Nevertheless the sensor works. I would say an erratic pattern is OK.

Might as well swap out fuse nr. 35, allthough not likely the culprit.

As per Wally's explanation this might have something todo with shift points. Anyway, it is an output signal, so don't focus on it.

My bet is still on pin nr. 11 of the CC plug.

Good luck.

Very odd.......my cruise control also isn't working....other than the digital dash it should work the same as Georges, since they both are the electric non vacuum type..... I haven't even started to diagnose it yet....

I should resolve this old thread by saying we found that there was only a weak, irregular pulse coming from the diff. We simulated a regular signal by gluing several magnets around the edge of a sanding disc mounted on a drill. As we spun the disc, near the sensor the speedo responded. So, we concluded the problem was inside the diff. We opened the diff and found the magnet ring loose and destroyed.

This is an old thread about George's speedo, not mine. Problem long ago solved by swapping in another used tranny with good diff. Just thought I would come back and add the solution.

But come on over and we can have our drag race.

So where's this event going to happen? Maybe I can come by with my white S4 with
the slow 2.20 open diff and see how things go...

George: We don't want to make you feel bad with all the HP going to waste due to the slow gearing.

Mythbusters needs to get into the math of gearing quickness & speed.

I used to have a connection to the production..but no longer do.

The only way to really get this happening, is a massive Rennlist campaign HERE:
http://community.discovery.com/eve/f...m/f/2991937776

And..basically get a ton of volume behind it arguing the ins & outs (Total Kibort style) until they HAVE to do it.

Then present how easy it'll be "Weve got three identical cars, all you need to do is provide _distance_ in a straight line to test the myth."

The main runway is 8000' long, and plenty wide...

8000', use the last 2000 for stopping, hey, I'll go for a 6000' run, I might be in 4th gear
by then...

If we get a voice in the static of the submission process, we might suggest finding a way to get an hour or so at Castle AFB.

11,802'

Longest non commercial GA airport you can likely get your hands on in the Western US.

Just pimp the Air museum there (which kicks total *** by the way) and the county should allow it.

The shift points I have worked out on my 4spd 2.20 will have me waiting for your 2.54's at the other end.
