Norcal 928 Funride - August 16

The air pump on the Euro froze up on the way home tonight. What is the downside of running without it, and how long would it take for a problem to manifest? I have stock cats (well, stock for the body) and a magna flow muffler.
Matt, I can handle the monster wrench as long as you keep it until the end of the ride.

On a CIS Euro like yours I don't think the air pump really does much anyway...just pull the belt until you have to fix it for smog..which should be over a year anyway..... Look at it this way...thats probably a couple extra HP!!
Have fun on the ride....I'm at work :>(

Somebody (Charley B.) has to verify my 30-40 feet of 11's
No bird strike jokes for flying at low altitude.
MONGO MONGO MONGO needs a new windshield ?

It's not that bad. I was just kidding. My claims guy is going to send someone out this week to fill the dime-sized chip. I got lucky.
Note to self though... Bill Ball's car is also a bead-blaster!
I have 3 pics only. I'll post them tomorrow because I'm rearranging a room today and still drying my car.
It was great meeting the Norcal crowd. I had a blast today! Amazing how the turnout for drives up here! Good news! My girlfriend wants to go to the next one! She even wants to go to Infineon next weekend... SWEET!!!!!

My trip report:
First I almost hit one of these:
Narrowly missing a sow as she darted across the road. Thankfully her piglets decided not to follow or we would have had pork chops for lunch instead of pizza.
A little while later I bottomed out at 50 on one of these:
I held my breath for a minute or so waiting for my voltometer or oil pressure to drop to zero, but thankfully the cattle barrier didn't seem to do any permanent harm I had a great time as always, and this time I didn't get lost
Thanks again to Bill for organizing this, when are we going to do a run to the Pinnacles?

No pic's, however we were glad that the deer that jumped out in front of us decided to stop and let us go by. Before my eyes flashed flashed the deer that jumped out in front of Cristiano Demata at Elk Hart Lake!!
It was nice seeing everyone again and meeting Mongo. Great food and commaraderie.
Don't forget IRL at Infineon this weekend. Free Parking for Porsche's in the Porsche Corral at turn 7. We will be there friday and saturday.
Thanks Bill for putting on another fun Norcal Drive.

Special thanks to Jim for leading the run, even if he had to wait a while for everyone else to catch up. It was on teh warm side today and my car got a bit hot on the uphill twisties, but it survived. The gravel on Mines was fairly fresh and was banging off every surface on my car. Still, it was a great ride. And the lunch was much better than it could have been considering none of us had tried that restaurant before.
We will do another ride next month. Jim has some ideas for an over-nighter in the Sierra foothill's. Any interest in that?
On the way home, Mark Kibort called me, so I ended up going over to his place after all. I didn't get to see the motor get fired up for the first time, but I did capture this video of its maiden voyage.

Mines Road Fun Run Aug. '08
It was a wild fun run. Bill and I over heated trying to keep up with Jim who claimed he was taking it easy. Guess he figured we needed a little humility. I dropped back for the 2nd half and managed to keep the temp. out of the red zone.
Met a Sheriffs car in the twisties who used both hands to express his desire that we drive safely.
Four drivers brought passengers who should all receive a medal for braving the 2nd seat on those kind of roads.
Andre wiped out a bird and is sending a donation to the SPCA as an acknowledgment of the error of his ways.
Nicole has found a way to avoid damaging road items on fun runs. She showed up at the end for the pizza and the BS session. It was good to see her and to hear that her Shark is all patched up and back on the road.
I'm not sure who gets the prize for coming from the furthest distance. Mongo from San Rafael (I think) or Kevin from Gilroy.
We had a new guy with an S4 with only 12,000 miles but he didn't stay for pizza so I didn't get the story on his low miler (not copy writed Todd ).
Thanx for rounding us up Bill. I had a great time.
There is a $5 prize for anyone, not on the run, to solve the mystery of pic #3. You must identify the subject and the subjects activity. No release has been signed, so the winner will receive only a PM'd confirmation.

This was one for the books. Maybe it was the new guy factor That brought out the wild life, (Great to meet Mongo/Andy) gotta love Porsche brakes as I found out being right behind Kevin as he misses the sow and I slam on the brakes to miss the piglets, blast the horn and get them to turn back. No bacon on the pizza today.
Great run W/ lots of twisties and very little traffic, thanks again Bill for putting on these events and it was great to see everyone.

No you do not need to reserve a spot for the Porsche corral. Just show up and park. It is better to get there in the am as parking will be less crowded. This is the first year we will be at turn 7. Normaly we are at turn 2 so I am not sure as to the size of the area at turn 7.

Actually my advice was tongue-in-cheek. But I would have liked him to keep in under 4K RPM for while as well as keep the load down. There are many divergent approaches to break-in. Mark Anderson dynos the first day. As I recall, Porsche dyno'd our motors right off the line. Anyway, I think the motor will be fine.
