Never happened, though I called several times. Not that I necessarily believed the guy, but I thought it would have been interesting to see what he was installing in his hot-rodded trannies.
There has to be some connections. The trans had tons of use, and there were many iterations. Put all the best pieces together and it could be a 1000hp trans. I just picked up a 4spd that was basically free to play around with and maybe use in a track car. I am going to clean it up and see what I find - Your thread is priceless for me. Keep at IT!

Anything that you and everybody else here can do to picture-document the practical rebuild by the DIY'er would be valuable.

I've taken one apart also and think they are the ultimate, yet doable, puzzle for the owner.

Brendan, any idea of working condition of the one you have? Is it 83-86 or is it S4?

Its an 84 as far as I know. The idea was to possibly use it in a *gasp* track car as a cheap way to get the wheels on the pavement earlier. It LOOKS clean on the inside so far. I have it partially disassembled, but was following our friend Adam's thread with great vigor as sometimes I would not wish to be the guinea pig. But since his wife is running away with a judge and his life is on hold until after his erection....

Joking. Anyway - I will disassemble it when I have assembled a good welding table in the corner of the garage and put a nice steel table top on it.

If its clean inside why not install it and try it?. I guess you are going to strenthen it?

I took an 84 completely apart and have a lot of pictures + kept all nearly all parts except the case. Thats not even close to a replacement for the objectives of this thread, rebuilding, but keep it in mind if you need hard parts in the future to help res-erect that one.!

I suppose you may have a point. But my worst pet peeve is putting something in and having to redo it right away.

Hi, I am rebuilding my 1989 S4 Tranny and want to make sure I have the K1 drum hidden seal replaced. But I need advice on how to do a good job repackaging the K1 drum after the three rivers head are being hammer off. Highly appreciate your advice on the best way to do it.

Well, basically the rest of the story is that my wife won her election, which was awesome.
Boy, talk about about getting to see the dark underbelly of the local politics.... I had no idea all that was going on, got to experience it first hand. Judicial positions here are non-partisan, but that doesn't mean that partisan style tactics don't work their way in. It was war.
Now, onto the tranny. It is still apart in various marked baggies. I'm very suprised about the lack of information that is out there.
And I'm not talking about just the MB tranny, I'm talking about modifying A/T's in general. I have clients that own transmission shops, and even they don't have specific information. They know how the trannies work, they know how to rebuild them, but they don't know much about modifying them.
I have one last lead that I'm massaging, but if it turns out to be a bust then I'll probably just rebuild the tranny with stock internals. I don't really want to be working with what theoretically should do this or that, I want to be able to ask if I do this will it help more then hurt. Not getting that right now. And I'm not getting the feeling that folks are protecting proprietary information, I truly think they really just don't know.

A blue GT or S4 just changed hands not too long ago..there was word of it on here..he had a Hughes Torque converter (modified original, I assume) and one of the threads had a fleeting bit of info about getting the AMG bits to go in the trans. Perhaps he or his shop would have some info?
