I think it would completely depend on the mood of the cop. Anywhere from a couple hundred bucks to impounded car and suspended license. I've been over 150 a couple time in my 200 20v and luckily have never been clocked.

At 150 I think your license is gone, your shark is gone and also you will be gone. If they clock you at 150 mph, you better gave more gas :-)

I've told this true story here already but here it is again. Once upon a time in a land far from Kalifornia, I had the pleasure of listening to a presentation by a motorcycle cop at a Porsche Club of America meeting one evening. Of course, his purpose for being there wasn't so much about safety as about finding a certain individual in the crowd. Toward that end, at the conclusion of the talk, he asked if anyone knew the individual in question. My hand went up and I approached the nice officer, introducing myself as the individual in question. He and I walked away from the others and then he told me that he had tried to catch me on his hog one evening on the freeway and I had left him like he was standing still. I explained that I probably didn't know he was behind me and apologized. He then told me that he wasn't so pissed at me for the speed but that I did it in front of him while he was on duty. That compromised his tolerance. Then he cautioned me to never do that in front of him again, please, and advised me to pick a deserted stretch of freeway late at night when I wanted to stretch the 911s legs. Just make sure no one else is around, he said. We made friends and remained so for some time, as he understood our "position" as drivers of fine and fast machinery. How fast was I going that night? I'll never tell. Not quite fast enough to hit the rev limiter in fifth gear. Like a responsible driver I was too busy watching the road ahead with my mega candlepower lights ablaze.

At 150 mph I would never catch you if you didn't lift, especially on a meeting or stationary clock, or hell, if you blew by me in the same direction for that matter.

Some agencies have helicopters that could keep you in sight, but that would be about it. The new Dodge Chargers can run around 155mph or a little more.

Hopefully you would be wise enought to take the 1st exit and hide somewhere.

My patrol car will only do 130 mph ('04 Crown Vic) and my patrol motorcycle will only do 120 mph ('04 BMW 1150RTP) and I have a family to go home to, so I would say bye-bye.

These cars are a blast to drive, just pick your spots and times to open them up (you know, be as responsible as possible).

As pissed as I was for the officer for "giving me a break" an on my 2am citation in the middle of BFE, I'm glad they didn't catch my sustained 156 minutes earlier....

To add to the ticket events here again... I was out in my '92 Euro GTS quite a few years ago. I had gone up around the north part of G'town heading out to Granger and the lake... I was up and down between 80 and 150ish... Good time! Decent roads, virtually no traffic, nice sweepers, good sight lines. Well, I went out around the lake and was heading back via some other roads and this freaking truck pulls out right in front of me. GOING SLOW (well compared to the 90 I was doing), so I just blew past in a non passing zone and didn't think twice about it. About 15 minutes later I am doing 69 in a 55...I thought it was a 60, but whatever...I was speeding. The officer pulls me over and tells me he is LOOKING FOR ME! Gave me a ticket for 9 or 10 over I think... Seems the truck I had ripped past out by the lake worked for the county parks dept and was off duty and put in a call! NICE! Like others here I was just glad he did not zap me at 150+!

Hehe, I zipped over a hill into Reno at 80'ish, I suspect the military ID had something to with the 1 mile over citation.

Yes the standard Crown Vic police car will not do much over 135mph, more like 125 considering how old and tired most of them are.....however the radio goes WAY faster!! :>)

Of course I don't worry about it too much....since I have gone over 140mph 3 times in the past week....& just hit 105mph in my 928 about 10 minutes ago!

I don't know the exact law in Michigan, but here in the republic of CA its called "exceeding 100 mph", it can be a misdemeanor (in theory you could go to jail), counts for 2 points on your driving record & might get you towed + impounded....but that depends on if the officer thinks you were "street racing" at the time....so basically you can be really screwed....just for reference the other 2 point tickets in CA are DUI and reckless driving....

Cop. "Where you goin' in such a hurry?"

Me. "Officer my wife ran off with a cop a month ago."

Cop. "Sorry to hear that, but it doesn't explain your driving like an idiot."

Me. "Well, when I saw you back there I thought you were him, bringing her back."

When he finally quit laughing he sent me on my way.

In most states, Massachusetts for certain, 20MPH over any posted speed is an arrestable offense. The offense being driving to endanger. I got pulled over for doing 90MPH on Route 24 in Mass just a few weeks ago by a statie and was told this. He let me go with a verbal warning since my last speeding ticket was October of 1993. Lucky Me........

Brett, you got lucky as hell. The guy used his discretion, & realizing that you aren't a menace on the road gave you a huge break. I wish there were more cops out there like that.
My experience has been that you're always asked a question right off the bat after being pulled over - for any infraction.
The reason for that is that it's human nature to make an excuse when asked "where are you going in such a hurry" or "do you know why I pulled you over?"
Answer is usually what sounds like a good excuse at the moment: I'm late for a doctor's appointment; irratable bowel syndrome, my wife's at home 8 months pregnant, etc...i.e. admission of guilt.
Then, if you decide to fight it in court, you can't plead not guilty, because you were knowingly speeding: Officer has your statement of guilt (your excuse).
Best thing to do is answer "actually no, officer, I don't know why you're pulling me over" or "I'm not in a hurry, sir". Even though in many cases it's clearly b.s., at least you can plead not guilty if you fight it.
Used to be in little jurisdictions in the middle of nowhere like Marana AZ, for instance, if you were clocked at >2x the speed limit and had cash on hand, you'd make a brief visit to the station for fingerprinting, pay a hefty *** fine as an alternative to lockup and be on your way. They'd rather have the revenue than some guy in their cell who's called their lawyer.
Now if you're clocked at 150, I'm not so sure the "sorry, I didn't know" excuse would be too effective. More like "Officer, can I respectfully request an experienced rollback operator, and my own cell?"

Very true...I have had the "are you in a hurry?" question before (I think I was 15 over or something like that, maybe 20) and I said, "no not really, just cruising along"...

The guy that dinged me on the off ramp at 106 asked me if I knew how fast I was going...I said, "No, but I was going REALLY FAST!" That was when he laughed and said, yea you were, and showed me the back of his radar (laser actually) gun... 106... My next statement was, "WOW! Where does that rank on your all time hits list?" He said I was tied for third but it was the FASTEST OFF RAMP HE HAD EVER SEEN! LOL! He had a guy at 118 and one at 108 and then me and another guy at 106. Had he hit me 100' earlier I would have been second on his list, I was already slowing down from 115!

I think he wrote me for 10 over or something like that so I could take DD or get a deferral.
