Default What! No Takers on My SC'd GTS?

I'd like to see someone on RennList buy my GTS. EBay Buy-It-Now is $33k. State Farm appraised at $55k. I have over $75k in it.

Bill Ball checked it out for a prospective buyer last week. You can PM him if you have questions. It is a good deal.

It's probably one of the finest 928... Just the problem of the cash.

But I would have tought that someone here would have bought it.

Can you break down all the mods, and the specifics of the engine build-up? Lower compression than stock? Updated rods? Pan baffle/oiling mods?
Sounds like a whole lotta 928 for the buck, and GTS too.

Damn! I'm your neighbor and would steal it if I could find it. But maybe I could just buy it...............Let me see................aw, I'm only about $32,000 short at the moment. Maybe I can think about it tonight and conjure up some way of prying some cash out of someone else........some guy owes me some money but he is an elusive rogue.......nope, doesn't appear likely. How about a Rabbit a 914/6 and another 928 and my guns and a big screen TV and ......no, you can't have my house............I'll keep thinking.....

Joe brought the car over and I got a chance to drive it and take a look. If you read over the eBay ad, you'll see it's a nice car with a LOT of very expensive mods. The amount of work put into this custom SC installation is phenomenal. Notice the custom crossbrace, for one thing. The custom fan set is fully shrouded and was way overbuilt by Marc Thomas. I can't imagine what those 2 parts cost let alone all the fabrication that went into the unique breather system components.

Joe was very forthcoming with information and didn't try to hide or dismiss any possible issues. Let me just say upfront that I found no significant mechanical issues with the car. Most of the mechanicals are new or freshly rebuilt. Any issues which I include below were rather minor.

I got a chance to put it on the lift and take a look underneath. Bellypans are missing. The DEVEK headers are fully wrapped. The motor mounts are wrapped in heatshield and fresh. The steering rack was firm and leak-free. The Konis are externally adjustable (rebound) and paired with Hypercoil springs.

As Joe mentioned the engine block is new. Everything was very dry, although I saw a few dribbles on the edge of the valve cover gaskets. Maybe they need the sealing rings. No leaks anywhere else. The oil cooler is custom, in front of the radiator instead of below it, and has AN fittings on the hoses. The drivetrain was spotless. Rear axles were good with intact boots. The undercarraige had no damage from incorrect jacking.

The car started and ran well with no unusal quirks. The intercooled boost is modest, so I would not expect any problems from mechanical stress. The car is quick. I would believe 400++ to the ground. The shifts are set very firm. There is a full custom gauge package, but they were not working when I saw the car. The AC compressor ran, but did not blow cold. Could be a somewhat low charge, bad expansion valve or a compressor problem, but I did not put any gauges on it to figure that out.

I ran a Theo 928 Diagnostic and it showed no trouble codes at all. Everything tested worked, including the WOT switch. The airbag steering wheel was replaced with a non-airbag Momo, but the airbag warning system has been modified so there is no error code. The dash airbag is still present and operational.

Paint very nice over all, 9.5 out of 10. Painted rear wing. Right front fender has 2 slight wheel well lip edge creases from attempts to flare with a baseball bat. These could be touched up. Rear bumper cover paint looks like respray just in one corner. It's down low and not visible unless the car is on the rack. No apparent damage underneath. One piece of rocker molding on front passenger side was slightly pulled loose. Should be able to reaffix this easily.

Seat on driver side was stuck back. I could hear the switch and motor click but there was no movement. Possibly a coin jamb in the rail. There were no tears or wear through in the leather and the dash was crack free.

Most of the minor issues I found above were pointed out by Joe.

And 4-point harnesses for the rear passengers?! [Correction - those are the front seat harnesses - my bad.]

I have three cars listed on Ebay right now and the market is DEAD!!! I have not had a single question on all three.

Thank the Oil price + Stock Market down + Credit Crunch & the Real Estate Bubble popping.

You should take it off eBay for now. Wait for the fuel price to come back to some realistic number. Economists keep saying it's almost twice what it's real price is.
People currently are selling. WAY more than what people are buying.

Keep it a few more month, and when the market calm itself, try selling it back. I'm sure you will sell it presto, and maybe even for a lot more.

My 2 cents.

Unfortunately the GTS is an oddball in the 928 world, in that it has maintained excellent value. So the money is in clean original GTS's, and not modified examples. The replaced block also doesn't help. That said, if you spent the time to clean up the minor issues you would see a lot more interest. As Jim has said, image is everything and little things like a non-working seat have a big impact. Not to mention inop a/c. That and most buyers won't want to see the harnesses, so you would do well to get the original belts back in place. Just my $9.28, it's a really nice car and should sell well.

In-op anything really reduces the value of a car.
Buyer aren't willing to pay $$$ and then have to make repairs.

In the marketing world (which I'm not really a part of just happen to have a friend who maintains lists) a list of knowledgable and known buyers of your product is worth FAR more that a bunch of geeks. I had over 80 "watchers" on the GTS last month. A total of maybe 10 email/calls, all of which mainly just want more pictures. I finally told one guy as nicely as I could, that if the pics online and that I took the time to send were not enough to generate an inspection, that there was nothing further I could do. These cars are scary and the market is small, probably made smaller by the economy.

Yes, we nit pick. But I would rather talk to someone who knows about the car even if I think he really isn't in the market. One guy called and just wanted (I assume) to talk about pricing in general on GTSs.
