Default Motor mounts

Im going to replace my motor mounts on my 1983s, I wish Id done it while I had the engine out but never mind, I didnt realise the importance of them then, from what Ive read on here it makes a large difference, worth doing right?

By "doing it right" doesn't mean you have to buy the most expensive parts available either.

Thats what I did, too.

84 and 86.

84 fan was contacting the lower radiator shroud.
86 was on its way.

I didn't detect a difference in vibration or feel, but know that I removed a lot of stress from the driveline with the repairs.

I did the same thing you did on the '84.....had the engine out - should've replaced the mounts - didn't! Then I got to replace them with the engine back in the car! But it's not too bad - can be done in a day.

It was well worth it for me - got rid of the vibration - I love it!! I liked the improvement so much, I'll be replacing the MM's on my wife's '88 later this summer - her motor mounts are transmitting vibration too.

Sounds like you're off to a good start - let us know how it goes - especially if you run into any problems.

Does the 83 have hydraulic or solid mounts & are you having the sort of vibrations that result from the mounts. Are the mounts showing signs of wear or flattening?

Good point Marton

Hi Ho, you need to check that your mounts are the later (Special Porsche hydraulic collapsing version) Circular on plan version - these are the ones that Rog sells the replacements for. The earlier mount isn't circular IIRC and has a different X member and the Rog mounts won't fit.

If your car has the later mounts I think it is a fair bet that even if it has done no miles since 1983 the mounts will need replacing anyway after 25 years.

Thumbs up

Ive just had a look on PET and the 83 motor mounts are listed as hydraulic abd the part number is 928 375 039 00 and they are round in the picture so Im hoping Rogers will fit.

83 takes the later style and mine will fit and they are $37.50 each and come with the correct hardware.
