Motor mounts
Dr Bob,
Are you thinking that the solid mounts that 928RUS sells is not a direct drop-in replacement for the hydraulic (liquid-filled) mounts fitted originally? The solid mounts sold as replacements for your car ARE a direct drop-in replacement for your car.
I wasn't sure if there was confusion about that.

Ive just bought my new mounts, Ive just had another look and the engine doesnt rock from side to side when reved, and the sump is below the steering rack, that means they have collapsed doesnt it? Not tthat it matter now though because Im putting new ones in anyway
if the sump is below the crossmember then the mounts are sagging /worn the steering rack is above the crossmember, you can also try to fit your mindex finger tween the pan and crossmember if its a close fit then the maounts are probably ready for replacement
What are the safety issues with solid mounts versus original hydraulic mounts? Someone advised that original mounts were designed to fail in an accident in such a way to prevent the engine from ending up in your lap. I found that difficult to believe since it is bolted to the torque tube and should move as a unit. Anyone have any direct knowledge of this subject?
My mounts are seriously in need of replacement so it is time to decide.

Well thanks everyone Ive manged to change the motor mounts, Im knacked now though, it was hard work, the visous fan is no longer near the bottom of the shroud and the oil pan is level with the rack. It now rocks side to side when revved, havnt driven it yet, didnt finish til 8.30pm last night, as normal with these things had a few teething problems, dont know whether it is me or the car, I recommend using a 17mm crow foot spanner on the hard to get nuts on the sterring rack, it works a treat, pity it took me ages to figure it out, with an allen wrench they kept turning.
