Default 14" 4 piston F50 brakes...who sells them??

Okay the brakes that Anderson and Fan run on their race sharks...the 14" (355mm) Brembo 4 piston kits....With new rotors, they should bolt right up.....does anyone sell these as an upgrade? I've seen the standard GTS big black-red upgrade, but thats only slightly larger than my stock 302mm brakes?

Not that I'm unhappy with my brakes....I've yet to fade them on the track & thats with stock pads.....just looking down the road in case I "find" a bunch more BWAAAHHH!!

Your stock f.brakes are actually 304mm.

The upgrade to GTS big black/red gains you an upsized rotor to 322mm and a larger caliper body but not any caliper piston difference. The resultant larger caliper then takes a larger pad with a total net gain of 50cm squared.

If you've yet to fade the stockers on track I'd suggest you play with the pad material then perhaps upsize to GTS as the $$$ are reasonable.

No idea price or availability of F50s but they sound mega $$$.

with 993 TT rotors you need GTS calipers.

You can do GTS calipers and 965 TT rotors (they are cross drilled but dont require a $300 aluminum hat) for about $1000. Add another $100-$200 for pads and your all set.

Brian,

Just a thought, why not ping Mark Anderson. I'm sure he could at least point you in the right direction if not sell them to you.

Cheers,
Constantine

Last time I looked, and F50 brake swap cost around $4000 with Brembo rotors and some race pads. There are better solutions available for less money. John V probably has some thoughts on this since he said his GTS brakes weigh too much.

FYI, SRT-8 brakes are about 14" but are axial mount (like S-brakes) not radial mount (like S4+ brakes). CTS-V or STS-V brakes are also that size. Used they're $100-300/corner.

Brian:

THere are several sources, even a few Rennlist sponsors. I do not want to start a who's the best vendor off shoot, just check their websites.

You will need a hybrid kit for the S4 and later shark with a 965 front rotor hat and the F50 caliper. A Brembo dealer should be able to source this for you.

FWIW, I am going to be installing the F50 claiper with a 332X32 rotor on the front as I could not get pieces for the rear to go all the way to 355mm and feel good about the F/R brake bias. I did run 355mm rotors on all four corners of my 993TT. It had amazing brakes, almost too much for anything but all out track driving.

Also, if you choose to delve into brake mods, I have found that if you venture into custom solutions, the total system takes some tweaking to get the pedal feel and bias dailed to where you'll like it.

Or ping Mike Simard. He's got a set of Alcon brakes on his car that are just incredible, biggest I've ever seen on a non-prototype car...probably not cheap though.

As another FWIW... do check the piece part prices ! As someone mentioned, the Brembo "GT" kits list at arounf $4K. If you shop pieces, Brembo, Alcon and AP, you can often make up the equivalent of a kit for a lot less money...

And as another opinion point, the Alcon brake bits are awesome !!!

Well on this topic has anyone considered a retroft of the PCCB rotors on a 928... how expensive is this and does it have completely new calipers for this or just new material pads on Big red/black calipers..? 330mm rotors I believe?

I'm sure its very expensive... but light..

Jim
Is the extra 10mm on the 332 rotor worth it...... How about a two piece 322mm GTS rotor with the larger F50 caliper mounted on that...since the F50 is lighter.....???

After a couple "brake tests" yesterday....my 928 does NOT feel light on brakes..... I am a bit worried about my next cars brakes......

Brian,

I am not sure I understand your point w/ all this. You state, "I have never faded my stock brakes" yet you are looking upgrade for what purpose. If you want to waste some money send it to me...I'll put your name on the side of my race car and do some work on a car that can use it.

Get some Pagid orange pads and see what you think of those before you decide to upgrade to NEW BRAKES for $$$$! Also if you are not running the 45bar 911 Turbo brake balance bar (to get MUCH more rear brake action) then you should upgrade to that too.

I did those to things on my S4 when it was my primary track car and the braking feel and effectiveness went WAY UP! I was shocked!

My race car has stock S4 brakes and a friend who is a real hot shoe in a 951 built to GT1S specs drove my car and was STUNNED how good those brakes were...now my race car is about 1000# lighter than an S4/GTS and 600#+ lighter than his 951, but they were the same brakes as his 951.

I think you can spend all of $300 (maybe less) and get MUCH better brake feel and STILL not ever fade those bad boys in a DE setting...

Good luck and keep us posted...

Oh, PCCB's... WHY??? The first gen of those SUCKED and were SUPER expensive! I am not sure the 2nd Gen is a whole lot better. Most of the guys over on the Race/DE thread choose to just go w/ the biggest steel brakes they can get because the consistency and replacement cost is so much less!

YMMV!

PCCB,

Well second Gen is as the first Gen should have been. Much improved disc durability and could no longer be a replacement part. As in rotors could soon become a lifetime component.

But they are $3K per disc I think. (Never even checked, only heard stories) Thats probably about $12K in brakes, i can think of many many other things to do with 12K

Good point, just sticking bigger ones at the front can increase your stopping distances if you don't fix the other points - less fade though

I asked Mike about why he got the Alcons for his car and I loved his response.

"They are probably overkill, but just once I wanted the ultimate kick-*** brakes."

The reason I am looking to upgrade the brakes is I am considering upgrading the HP....& I figure the brakes should come first!! It does seem in stock-ish powered 928 racers the factory brakes with Pagids is fine...but once you jump up the HP you need the brakes to match it (like anderson-fan)....

It can't hurt to buy a set of oranges and the bias bar....since my rear brake pads don't seem to wear at all....
