Default Removing airbag Dash

SeanR mentioned to me that to remove an airbag dash, all thats required with the Pod out and the center console out is the removal of 4 other bolts.

I find that hard to believe (although i have no reason to doubt him) considering how many nuts and bolts it takes to keep this car together.

Anyway, i see 2 bolts on each side of the dash that are exposed when the doors are open. Are these 4 bolts really all that keeps the dash attached to the car? Is removal really that simple? I was thinking there maybe bolts under the defrost vents but i cant find a way to remove the vents so i imagine they stay put.

Can anyone confirm that these 2 bolts per side is all that holds the dash in place?

Thanks

How bout a non airbag dash?

What holds those in? Just these 4 bolts/screws inside the door jam?

Hey Ryan. Will you be attending SITM? It'd be a good opportunity to clear the air and move forward with a pleasant 928 "bonding" session. I look forward to the opportunity to meet you. G

I just took out an airbag dash. I suspect the bolts holding the dash in are the same. There are six bolts holding the dash directly. There are 2 bolts on each outside end, as you found. Then, if you pop out the vent pieces on the ends and look up inside you will see a single bolt near each end that attaches the dash to the bar that runs across the front. You can get these bolts out with a long extension and a universal joint and socket from below the dash.

IIRC you also have to remove the three around the steering wheel shaft.

Yes, you can see them through the vent hole once the plastic fitting is removed and the hose is pushed aside, but best tool access is from below. The driver side one is close to the pod cut-out, but I could get a tool in there. I don't recall any bolts on the steering wheel shaft that had to be removed.

Nicole: The dash was easy. The evaporator took a while. We are ready for the new one. Hope it comes tomorrow as we are scheduled to install it Saturday.

That woudl be wonderful! I'm getting nervous that it takes so long!

I might have to pick-up the car on the way to Tahoe...

Nicole: We really want to finish the car on this Saturday. If the new evaporator doesn't come in, we should consider using the used one you provided. It looks very nice.

Bill,

Did you remove the glove box before pulling the dash? Are there no trim screws on the passenger side that need to be removed to pull the dash. Now that i think about it i know the glove box is mounted by the recirc box, which is NOT the dash, so i guess you just unlatch the glovebox, let it drop and thats all you need to do

Sorry just still in disbelief that the dash is held in with just 6 bolts. I need to stop thinking about this crap and just do it already! DAMN!
