Default What is this grommet for?

I just bought a brand new S4 front engine wiring harness. (starter, alternator, compressor, etc.) It has this grommet on it. It looks like it should fit in a clamp somewhere but I don't see where. My old harness didn't have one on it. Anyone know what it should fit into?

Thanks, Hammer

That grommet holds the wires that go into the starter. The grommet itself slides into the plastic cover that is mounted onto the back of the starter and the wires (2) go thru the grommet. This seals the rear end of the starter from water, trash, etc...

If you need a pic. let me know.

PS: Check your starter (starter cover) the old one my still be inserted there and you didn't realize it . It goes in from the side.

Thanks Dave,
I'm using an oil pan spacer and the lightweight starter. No wonder I couldn't find a use for the grommet.

It's for the alternator cover, not starter.

Good, 'cause I was just working on the car, looked at the old starter at the shop & there was no place for the grommet. Thanks for everyone's help.

In case you didn't hear... it's for the alternator, not the starter.

Again, sorry for the confusion.

I was in the garage when I answered your question with the plastic cover in my hand. (my car is still in parts) Guess I had the starter on my mind as I just finished a difficult starter install because of an oil pan spacer.
