Default How I spent my day (RUST REPAIR)

I am having Paul Champagne do the interior of my old car and I am replacing the carpet this weekend, or so I thought. I got up early this morning to start the carpet install. Since the interior is already out I thought no problem. So the first thing I did was remove the door sills and found both sides rusted. I painted the car a few years back and still had some paint left over, Lucky for me. I went ahead and took advantage of the situation of no interior and old carpet and decided to fix this before the carpet. here are so pics.
The last two are my first installment of leather parts from Paul. He did a awesome job of making the seat belt rose from scratch. I also had the tool cover done in leather. Looks 100 times better than carpet.

Looks good Brad. The paint match looks perfect compared to the adjacent areas. How is the area under the rear window and the rear spoiler area? Both are pretty typical rust areas even for 928's a lot younger than yours. As expected from Paul, the interior panels look great.

Jim, I already did the quarter window rust when I painted the car a while back and the rear spoiler I added after the paint job.

Sterling, Look I went from grinding to finished product in one day. NOT 1 YEAR

Nice job with the rust repair. The interior; as expected; looks stunning. Can't wait to see pics of all the pieces installed in the car.

Does anyone know why the cars rust here? I have seen a few older cars all with a little rust in this location along with the 1/4 window.

My '94 GTS was showing rust bubbles where the door hits the body of the car in the same location (vs. under the kick plate like your car) and Porsche fixed it for me for free! YEA! That was back in '98. I think they actually had a 10 year deal for rust so that is probably why they fixed my car. There is a weld right along there somewhere as I understand it...

mine had rust in the same area on the driver's side, but not the passenger side.

car spent much of its life on the eastern seaboard, it's a wonder the body doesn't look like swiss cheese.

nice job---

So, I only know of three areas that are **** to rust on the 928. Door sill, 1/4 window and the rear hatch under the spoiler on 81 - 86 cars.
Any other?

I know i pulled a lot of leaves from the fire wall area around the A/C fan.

Love the colour, both the platinummetalic, and the leather. Use to have one in platinum, but it was stolen. Still love that colour.
