Default New exhaust soon to be ordered

Kind of liked the idea of this thread, since I am now going to fix the exhaust.
The sound is not good enough stock, with S4 resonators (Suisse-specc '91 GT).
Was looking forward to read about and hear lots of nice sounding sharks.

May go for this, all from Carl:

-X-pipe
-New cats
-Carl's mid-section with new mufflers

End- section options:
-Original muffler (that nice, original look, but will it sound right..)
-RMB (saves weight the wrong place..)
-Custom rear muffler

So, what do you think?

As for the Boxster; I have a Cayman S Winter Wagen, and it sure sounds like a racing machine, stock. But that does not mean it sounds anything like a F1.

I really preferred the stock exhaust note. Ever since Roger corrupted Randy's exhaust (the GTS not Randy) with an x pipe and rmb it's a little too loud for me. The dogs, cats and cows on the property agree! They are all poo-less when Randy drives by.

Hmm, maybe it's not the exhaust...

for Ryan's benefit, :

the above information is correct.

what I heard was that Lewis had won four races. I wasn't listening to the broadcast that closely, nor did it matter to me. I wrote what I heard, factual or not. I quoted David Hobbs, and you took offense to me doing so, factual or not. I doubt that you or I know a hundredth of what Mr. Hobbs know about F1, so what's the problem....? Ryan, it's not that big of a deal.....just you doing what you always do, you picking out something that pushes your buttons and then you go on a rant about it. You have your favorite people to pick on, and I just happen to be in that group.

Tell you what.....if you will make as big of an effort to correct those who attack me for factual statements I make, I'll call it even.

This thread was about making the 928 sound like a F1 engine, which, as I said before, would be difficult to do considering the rpm's that the F1 engine operates at (compared to the 928 operating range). The displacement is significantly different, the rpm's are nearly tripled, and the exhaust is open. There are other internal differences, but.....

So Ryan, are you going to go on with your rant, or is this enough to calm your keyboard.....

Here's my experience with exhaust combinations...

84 Euro S....Ott x-pipe into 3.5" single pipe with 2 Borla's in series = unbearable! Loud, waaaay loud, with terrible resonance at certain speeds...60-75mph resonance, 80-100mph ok, 100-120mph resonance, 120+mph ok. Cruising at freeway speeds you can't even talk to the passenger. Ott x-pipe had to go. Installed stock S4 cats...resonance went away, sound is perfect. Went from an angry snarl to an angry growl.

87 S4....Devek Level II headers, into high flow cats, into single 3.5" pipe with 2 Borla's in series...nearly perfect for an S4. The high flow cats have had the ceramic bricks burn out and were spit out the tailpipe, so it's a bit louder now...I honestly prefer the slight cut that the cats gave it. This thing really barks on start up, mellows a bit once it's warmed up. Very similar to the sound Dennis has with his.

ok so your just a parrot then

and no there is not a group of people i pick on, your in an exclusive club, why? because you seem to always make up stuff and then decide to post it. Your the only person that does this on such a regular basis that it gets my attention and i need to speak up.

So again, try and refrain from commenting on things you dont know or understand. I will stay out of the redneck racing topics because i dont know a damn thing about them, simple as that. I suggest you follow the same motto when thinking about posting on something you dont really understand. And because you Parrot something doesn't make it ok to post either. Have your own opinion, dont take some one else's and claim it as your own. Thats not cool either.

Cheers

well Ryan, the last time I checked this was a free speech country......

I appreciate that you will keep your uninformed opinions about any racing activity that you know nothing about to yourself. I think it's fine that you will keep your keyboard shut regarding such things.

I, on the other hand, will continue to be here.

Please continue with your rant if you must.

uninformed? Actually didn't we just prove that your the uninformed here?

you are so obtuse dude, talking to you is like speaking to a mentally ill person about the simplest of things. No matter how many times you tell them something so obvious, they are just incapable of understanding.

No offense to the mentally ill

You contribute nothing of value as far as i am concerned and you are just an irritation that i cant stop scratching because its so easy. You clearly are incapable or learning anything, and are just a huge frustration. I am going to do myself a huge mental favor and put you on ignore. I'm through responding to your idiocy

Guys, (both of you) please take your spat to PMs or to OT. You have ruined what could have been a great thread about exhaust sounds. Better yet, you could just sell your 928s, buy 951s and hang out on the 951 board. You would fit in great there.

That was the tri-y I remembered, thanks for the reminder. Does anyone still have his designs? I'll bet it could be tracked and automated, would be a great alternative to the headers out there.

An (on-topic) question from a relative newbie:

What kind of a difference does an x-pipe make in terms of the exhaust note? Does it make it louder? Deeper?
