the screens are actaully in there to provide uniform air flow over the MAF. Thats what i was lead to believe atleast. Bill, is there anyway to add a maf screen where the pipe steps down after the turn? Just an idea.

If this thread were about 928 International, 928 Specialists, Roger etc... I would be making the same post (assuming the scenario was similar).
Had Shmurzik contacted Tim first with no resolution it would be different. You have to actually contact the person so they have a chance to resolve the problem. Tim doesn't have ESP yea know.

Erik , to be fair if you order something from a vendor/store and it doesn't show, is it standard practice to try and contact the manufacturer?? He bought it from Carl, not Tim. Therefore Carl is the contact.

OK, here's my plan for the surging. Tim's original system used an elbow boot that did not have a diameter change. At the moment George's SC is off his car. We were supposed to install it back on his car tomorrow, but I'm thinking of using his boot as an experiment. If that eliminates the surging, then we'll see if Tim has any more of the old boot design. I believe I am correct that the old design did not change diameter. If not, we're back to square one, but I'm willing to bet this is the issue. Keep other suggestions coming.

Bill is now getting help isn't he?
It's more than just some part not showing up on time.
Also:
Is it still considered a "Murph" kit with the different style supercharger, or is this a "beta" kit pieced together for the sale? (and apparently not functioning properly)
Did it come with a Vortech, like the "Murph" kit has, or with a Raptor?

OK, here's my plan for the surging. Tim's original system used larger diameter pipes and an elbow boot that did not have a diameter change. At the moment George's SC is off his car. Honestly, if the fan was available locally (which it probably is) the only point of that is getting a refund for not sending it. It's not like the middle of California is in the middle of Australia parts wise.
As far as having "drive it home" expectations, that may be a bit hopeful and not very realistic. There are too many variables to count on plug and play. You would have a much better chance flying in after it was fully installed and sorted out.
The new supercharger Tim is spec'ing reduces the install time and skill level as well as potential problem areas. It's not like he is trying to submarine your efforts, he is constantly trying to make it a better system. This is a bad thing?
The only real problem I see is the delivery time and you know what? **** happens. A lot of people have waited a lot longer for a lot less without getting on Rennlist and spouting off.
Getting on an open forum to air your soiled laundry instead of actually trying to contact the responsible person is almost as childish as saying "He should call me" instead of taking the bull by the horns and attempting to solve the problem without the drama.
Just my .02c

Everyone on this forum knows this already but... Reading through this thread it just jumps out at what a great asset Bill Ball is to the 928 community. Reading the posts, people are "arguing" back and forth about who should have called whom, etc., when Bill is out there on a holiday weekend still trying to get it working. Way to go Bill! ![thumbup](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/thumbup.gif)

I was thinking Bill should start a new thread and leave this one to the folks who want to argue the 'blame' portion.
Bill, if removing the MAF screens makes the issue worse then we know we need to go in the other direction. If we agree the 2.5" to 3" to 3.5" is too abrupt over the short space is it possible to lengthen the 3" section of the pipe? Even a temporary try before there's anything cut.

As to the pipe, I don't believe it is a factor. I stuck some straight 3" pipe I had in the boot and it still surged. Boot off - no surge. It's the boot. Tim's experience is that "marginal" MAFs do this, and that changing out the MAF fixed it. I already tried one other MAF. If the old style boot fixes it, I'm going with the old boot.
