I tested my cobbed together diffuser on the stock s4 I have and it did not work out very well. The car I have is not exactly a pristine specimen and has issues of its own but this seemed to make things worse when driving, especially with a real light throttle. So, no diffuser test for you at the moment coming from me.

I drove my wife's car for nearly a full season with the Stage 1 kit and the car ran perfect the entire time. Even drove it to SITM and back with exactly the same setup you have.

I cannot think of anything more I can offer at this time.

EDIT: Soon after I installed the Stage 1 kit on my wife's car I had a problem with a faulty WOT switch that cost me a worthless day at the dyno. So I guess I wasn't totally without any issues.

I believe it is a good time for me to check out of this thread.

I found that to be really important when changing the smallest parameter on the intake / maf setup.
Yes, that could account for 10 minutes or so of odd stuff. I don't pay much attention to that in terms of how the car drives, but as a matter of fact some of my MAF/boot position experiments may have been polluted by that. Thanks for reminding us.

Yes, I agree my observations could all be random occurances. I didn't repeat them or really make a real study of them. That why I called them "file under weird." The car surged a lot but later after various manipulations didn't. Unless Tim or someone else can duplicate and confirm any of this, it's interesting but not terribly meaningful.

OK, I certainly understand. Thanks for trying it.

Hello.

My apologies for not posting earlier – have been dealing with the car as you may have noticed (Bill’s ability to speed-post here is rivaled only by his propensity to take on 928 projects).

Quick update on the car (probably redundant vis-à-vis Bill’s posts, but nonetheless): we re-assembled the intake portion and with the MAF rotated approximately 20 degrees clockwise surging has all but disappeared. Unfortunately, overheating is another matter – Bill has gotten the car to the second white line today (something which I didn’t manage, but his driving was a bit more spirited) and the correct way of connecting fans is still under discussion. We have quite a bit more of various odds and ends to deal with, but I hoping to make a decision on the cross-country/SITM trip in the next two days.

On the thread and the underlying issue: yesterday I spoke with Tim (I hope he doesn’t mind my transmitting portions of the conversation second hand, but since I made it public in the first place it would make sense to give all of you some sense of closure ) and we basically agreed that the shipping/communications could and should have been handled better. Tim was gracious enough to point out that once a kit is sold the assembling/shipping lies with him. The auxiliary fan fell through the cracks and the costs will be refunded. As some of the more impartial observers have suggested ( :P ), I would like to thank Tim for all the technical help provided and the investigational work done in the last few days. On balance I still think that starting this thread was a worthwhile affair: hopefully it will help future customers not to have to deal with issues like these.

In conclusion, I would like to thank all taking time to participate in this thread and especially those offering help and advice – it has been very much appreciated and with luck I’ll be able to thank some of you in person at SITM. Separate thanks to George Suennen and, of course, Mr. Bill Ball.

OK.

Bill - feel free to start a new thread discussing your surging/overheating issues.

Closed.
