Greg,

I second that. Bill has, over and over again, gone well beyond what could be expected of anyone. (did mother Theresa owe a 928? Sorry. Lame joke.)

As for your earlier comments – I am not looking for partners in kicking Tim or Carl around. I am trying to attract Tim’s attention in admittedly a rather heavy-handed way. The reason: I feel I have very few plausible options left in the short run.

I waited for DR’s kit for 9 months and I make no complaints - I inquired as what was up, was told that Dave has had some health problems and that was the end of it. I also understand the risks involved in driving a newly upgraded car across the country, but a. it wasn’t my original plan and b. it looks less and less likely to happen. But, as already said, I will get over this.

Tim called. He's on vacation. (NOTE: I use email to communicate with Tim and didn't have his number. I wasn't planning on calling him tonight anyway as we had already reviewed the surge issue and there is no way to get a fan sent to us until Tuesday). We reviewed the surging again and overheating. A bit puzzling, but he gave me a few things to try. As to the auxiliary fan, he agrees there was a ball dropped between he and Carl. Since the car heats up cruising on the freeway on a cool day, it's not likely a fan issue. I need to re-check the T-stat (with seat and seal) I just did before going further. Good night.

I would agree with your diagnosis about the fan Bill, likely some other cooling issue all together.

I think the fan would only be of benefit when in traffic or idling when there is no air moving over the radiator. At highway speeds the air alone, with no fans should cool the car.

Maybe a pump as you suggest, maybe a tired radiator, maybe something else.

I have been in overheating hell for two weeks with a supercharged Corvette, new head gaskets, new water pump, 3 thermastats, just about at my witts end on this one.

You don't need to scare me like that. I have 2 days, not 2 weeks. How many times have you changed the radiator?

I agree, especially on a cool day. On a hot day, going uphill even at highway speed my car overheated when the seconday fan stopped working. So, the fans still can play a role but at 65F on a level freeway, fans shouldn't matter.

I am not sure if I can post a Corvette related issue here, but here is what I posted on the Corvette forum.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=2032531

This is the first post, check it out if you want, because I could use the help at this point.

Randy you can delete this if it should not be here.

My 87 is overheating.

I had a head gasket problem and that was taken care of.

this is the third time the heads have been done, so I have no idea of how much has been taken off of them.

System gets flushed at least every year, about a year ago we had the
Plug and knock sensor out.

We only had to take .008 off this last time, it lost the fire ring on 7.
Imagine that.

It is a .60 over motor built to stock specs by Jasper using my original core with a Procharger D1 and intercooler.

It has been running hot since we did the heads last week.

I have the biggest "Griffin" radiator that they sell for a stock 87.

edlebrock water pump, Mr gasket 180 thermastat.

We did a CO2 test on it today and it came back negitive.

new sensor and sender

when the gauge reads 250 the ecm is seeing (input) 238.
That is getting above my comfort level.

I am not sure how hot it will get, but it never ran that hot before.
Even with the bad head gasket it ran about 225 max, it just lost coolant.

The only thing I can see that changed is the thickness of the heads and the design of the intake gaskets.

Everything looks clean at the radiator, intercooler and condensor.
fan seems to be working ok.
I have not taken them out, but we had it on the rack today and it looked clean, the only place you cant see very well is between the condensor and the rad.

ignition is set at 6 BTDC.

System has been burped.

Got any ideas? I am at a loss at this point.

thanks Greg.

Very few fans can make a 70 MPH breeze.

Smurzik,

I guess I'm not an impartial party here, I consider Tim a good friend.

I don't really know what the you are trying to accomplish here, but any time you attempt to modify an older car, you will find the weak spots. More so when you have to meet a deadline/schedule. Things that are functional but on the way out will fail or not work properly when you add boost, etc.

As far as the fans, my front pusher fan rarely comes on, after many back to back pulls on the dyno only the fronts were turning on to maintain proper temps. It has to be pretty hot or the AC on for the front fan to come into play. My radiator is about 6 years old and flushed annually. There is something else wrong with your cooling system.

As far as the new style SC, it is a design improvement and gets rid of the oil supply feed and return lines, oil filter sandwich adapter, and lets you use the stock oil filter. Yeah, I'd be pretty pissed about that.

And the surging issue.........many possibilities most of which are old parts on you car that may be faulty or failing. I had a fuel pressure regulator diaphragm fail and a WOT switch fail which caused some issues not noticeable without boost. I had a bad newly rebuilt MAF in my car for many months which caused some issues.......solved by replacing it again from a different vendor.

I'm sorry you are not enjoying your car yet, but this isn't the right way to get it fixed. Must be vendor pigpile month.....

If you still need help with the SC system when you get back to NY, look me up......
