Is this a folding wing?
I was examining my rear wing on my 928 to try to troubleshoot an annoying rattle. On close inspection it appears there is a hinge on my wing. I figured my VIN # was too high (1387) for me to have a folding wing. I am not even sure that this is a Porsche wing or a fiberglass knockoff since it obviously has been painted.
Does anyone have any pictures of their folding wing?
I tried lifting it up, but I damn near lifted the rear of the car up and the wing did not fold. I did not want to apply more force and possibly break my wing, so I thought I would check for more info here first. (I can always break it later).
Anyway, here are some pics of my wing.

yep..folding wing...sometimes you have to give the back of the wing a nice whack UP...and it will lift..not that Im recommending doing that...those hinges were lost for reason..i think Jim B posted they are like $400 or so..and not available anymore..... interesting to have a relatively high 87 with folding wing..maybe not original?..

Looks the same as mine, which folds up.....
Sorry, don't have any pics....
If it hasn't been lifted for a long time it could be quite stuck. I would suggest to lift at each end (perhaps have someone on each side). Rather than lifting in the middle, this should reduce the chance of damaging the wing.
The first time I discovered that I had a folding wing it required a fair bit of force to lift it.... I thought i was about to break something... then pop... up it came.... now it is fairly easy and is a great help when washing the car.

Thanks, for the replys. I figured from its appearance that it was most likely a folding wing. It just seemed odd given the high VIN#. I am inclined to believe that it was added later.
Or who knows, maybe they were putting wings on at the factory and Helmut finds a leftover folding wing collecting dust in the corner and slaps it on my car.

Picture of the folding rear spoiler are shown on page 5-03 of Porsche's Service Information Technik for the 1987 S4.
Is was replaced in course of the 1988 My, but as you are probably aware 1988 year models were made in 1987. The explanation is on page 5-00 of the Service Information Technik booklet for the 1988 S4.

It's painted too so it could have been added later.

Is there a way to look at the number on my block and see if I have a squirter block? If it is a squirter block that would be pretty cool as I am planning to force feed my shark in a few years when I have it completely sorted.

Some signs of squirter blocks are I believe....early style intake (without ribs..or visa versa can't remember), metal oil filler neck (left over from the inferior 86.5 S ). I think also, the black separator between the fog lights and turn signal will show the holes for the screws..whereas the later ones will have a cover over the screws... Not sure on the numbers of the block though.. do a search..This was discussed a short time ago.

Tom is right, early intakes do not have ribs and the filler neck is aluminum.
